Never a Hero (Tucker Springs, #5)Never a Hero by Marie Sexton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Never A Hero is a story I very nearly stopped reading before getting to the good part… not that it doesn’t start out well, but it takes a while for timid characters to grow on me and Owen is practically a shut-in. Boy am I glad I kept going, because it went from just okay to pleasantly engaging to wowsers intense. Both heroes have major personal issues to work through before they can have a shot at their happily ever after and both of their paths to redemption are risky and emotionally painful.

The love scenes are fairly tame… not too graphic but honest enough to feel like what a man might actually think and feel about his male partner. They also are somewhat sparse, used to organically frame and progress the story rather than gratuitously over-stimulate it. Considering the sensitive and intense nature of the storyline, I think the romance was approached respectfully and thoughtfully and is definitely worth the read.
