Book Tour & Giveaway (US/Int): Kissing the Maid of Honor author Robin Bielman’s top 10 wedding songs
Hey everyone! I am so jazzed to be visiting GraveTells today to talk about my favorite wedding songs. Thanks so much for having me, DVK!
Robin’s Top Ten Best Wedding Songs
I’m pretty sure each of us can come up with a list of must-play wedding songs, and that each of those lists would be different. Today I offer my selection. I had a blast picking them and I tried to mix it up. New and old. Fast and slow. And one I’m pretty sure none of you have heard of. I’m going to start with that one, as it holds special meaning for me.
1. “Popsicle Toes,” Michael Franks
You’re thinking, huh, aren’t you? This is the song my hubby and I danced to for our first dance. It’s totally untraditional. Totally different. And we totally loved dancing to it. When it came time to select that first dance song, we knew this had to be it. It’s a fun, flirty jazz song with lots of innuendo that we always laughed about. Here’s a link if you want to take a listen.
2. “At Last,” Etta James
Right from the very first note, you know this song. And for me, it evokes a sweeping, bluesy, moody, want-to-close-my-eyes-and-sway feeling. When Etta croons that very first “At Last,” it’s just magic if you ask me. I want to put this song on repeat and dance wrapped in my hubby’s arms over and over again.
3. “The Wind Beneath My Wings,” Bette Midler
This one also holds special meaning for me. Rather than walk down the aisle to the traditional wedding march, I walked down the aisle to this song.
4. “Wild Thing,” Tone Loc or The Troggs
Hey! Two for the price of one here. Depending on the bride and groom’s preference, you’ve got two fun selections. I’m leaning toward The Troggs rendition since I think we should all say groovy a lot more often. These songs shout wedding reception to me. I picture guys on the dance floor pretending to strum their guitars and girls mouthing the words while they point at their dance partner.
5. “Truly Madly Deeply,” Savage Garden
This quiet song is really anything but. Every “I want to” makes me want to. And the rest of the lyrics are just beautiful. I love this song and want to slow dance all night long when I hear it.
6. “Unforgettable,” Natalie Cole/Nat King Cole
I had to include what I think might be the most popular wedding song. It warms my heart every time I hear the edited and remixed duet. I love the horns, the violins, the piano, the lyrics, the feeling I get hearing father and daughter sing “together.” This song is simply unforgettable.
7. “I Feel For You,” Chaka Khan
I’m showing my age here, but I love this song. It makes me want to get up and dance and sing. This could be my karaoke song! (You don’t want to be around for that. I can’t even carry a tune.) Anyway, I think it should be played at all weddings because it’s fun and upbeat. I love the words, too. The video, though, totally cracks me up. It’s so cheesy, you’ve got to check it out.
8. “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” Michael Buble
This is one of those songs that I think young and old alike can dance to – with a partner or without. It’s got that big band feel, but mass appeal, and by the end of the song, everyone will be crooning “crazy little thing called love.”
9. “I Do,” Colbie Caillat
This song makes me all kinds of happy. It’s romantic, upbeat, sweet, and fun. Colbie’s signature acoustic guitar sound is contagious and I dare you not to smile when you hear it!
10. “Sunday Morning,” Maroon 5
I love Maroon 5. In fact, I reference them and their song “Moves Like Jagger” in my new release, KISSING THE MAID OF HONOR. Yep, my hero and heroine do a little dancing to it and maybe get a little caught up in each other. With “Sunday Morning,” I love the beat and the feeling the song gives me. Once again, I want to be this close to that someone I love and spend time together.
What about you? What song or songs would be on your top ten list?

More about Kissing the Maid of Honor
Kissing her best friend’s brother never felt so right…
Sela Sullivan is resolved to be the best maid of honor ever, even if it means tolerating the best man. Insufferable, too-handsome Luke Watters is not only the guy who humiliated her at a kissing booth in high school, but he also happens to be her best friend’s older brother. Positive he’s the same arrogant jock, Sela vows to focus on her duties and steer clear of the frustrating—and frustratingly tempting—Luke.
As a world-renowned extreme-sports photographer, Luke is used to undertaking life-risking adventures. But risking his heart for the beautiful Sela Sullivan, who clearly still hates him for his rejection all those years ago? He didn’t see that coming. Sela inspires a passion he’s never known, and the more time they spend together, the more he craves her. But can he prove to the maid of honor he’s become a man of honor?

HI Robin! I soooo totally agree with the Maroon Five choice! That song is super sexy. I just danced to it with my husband at a wedding this weekend, in fact! Excellent list! Thanks for being our guest!
Those are some good choices! I don’t know about must-have songs at a wedding, but some of my faves from my own are Everything I Do by Bryan Adams, Isn’t She Lovely by Stevie Wonder and I Loved Her First by Heartland. Looking back now, I’m thinking I should’ve let YOU plan the playlist lol.
Book sounds fun, I’m going to have to check it out 🙂

Hi BK! LOL, I would’ve loved to plan your playlist! I *almost* included Stevie Wonder on my list – love him. I like Bryan Adams, too. I’m not familiar with the Heartland song, but I love the title.
Thanks so much for checking out my book! And thanks for commenting!
The Heartland song is a sweet song that’s basically like a dad singing to his daughter/son-in-law so my Mom actually had that song dedicated to us 🙂
Oh, Buffy, I just watched the video… it’s a beautiful song! The words so tugged at my heart and made me think back to my wedding and the great relationship I had with my dad. He and my hubby were actually very close, too, and when my dad passed away I think it was almost harder on him than me. Thanks for sharing this!
Nice song choices
Hi bn! Thanks!
Those are some good choices. I can honestly say though that although I didn’t have a single one of those at my wedding, Savage Garden’s Truly Madly Deeply was on my wedding cd. I love that song.
The book sounds great. I’m going to have to check it out
Hi Iris! Thanks so much for checking out Kissing the MOH! I love that Truly Madly Deeply is on your wedding cd! I can’t remember what music we’ve got ours. Hmm… maybe I’ll have to dig it out. Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for this chance to win.
Hi Sarah! Thanks so much for stopping by!
Loving the Maroon Five choice, such a fabulous and sexy song! Thanks for the giveaway and the 10 great wedding song choices!
Hi Crystal! Maroon Five is one of my favorites. Their songs just stay with you, you know? Thanks so much for commenting and checking out my list!
I’ve gotta say I love We Danced by Brad Paisley, Forever and Ever Amen by Randy Travis, I Do (Cherish You) by Mark Wills, & I Love The Way You Love Me by John Michael Montgomery. For some reason I always think of country songs when it comes to wedding songs. 😉
Hi Veronica! Country songs have some pretty darn romantic lyrics, right? And it’s pretty hard to sit still with the snappier ones, so they’re great wedding songs. Thanks for sharing your favorites!
Truly,Madly, Deeply is one of my all time favorites. In fact I was watching the video last weekend and *sniff* a few times
I am also a sap for Bruno Mars-I Think I Want To Marry You.

Hi Sandy! Yay! Another Truly Madly Deeply fan. And I love Bruno Mars. Have you seen the proposal video by a guy who asked his girlfriend to marry him by playing “I think I want to Marry You” and getting friends and family involved by dancing and singing in the street while a camera recorded from the back of a car? It’s awesome! So sweet and romantic!
Eternal Flame by The Bangles
Never Tear Us Apart by INXS
Alone by Heart
I’ll Be There for You by Bon Jovi
I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith
Baby, I Love Your Way by Peter Frampton
Maybe I’m Amazed by Paul McCartney
and for something fun
I Want You To Want Me by Cheap Trick 🙂
