For Dee's Coastal Magic 2017 Featured Author spotlight post, I wanted to give her something fun and different to do. So we decided to indulge in a little flash fiction! If you're not familiar with flash fiction, it's very simple: write a short story driven by specific prompts. Dee NAILED this short story! I've read it several times now and each time gives me chills. This story has a lot of potential. It’s original and creative and features characters you want to get to know better. Unfortunately, it’s simply far too short. The romance moves so quickly at first that it feels forced, or like maybe the reader isn’t getting the whole picture. Likewise, the characters (initially) aren’t very well developed – not enough to carry the depth of emotion the story wants to portray, anyway. The time-traveling premise, while intriguing, really needs to be better explained and more organically demonstrated.

Please help me welcome author Tracy Cooper-Posey! I’ve read any number of time travel novels. I love and adore the idea of time travel. I started off early in the genre. I think my very first introduction was H.G. Well’s The Time Machine, when I was six or seven years old. Possibly, that introduction scarred me for life, when it came to time travel inside the romance genre. I am, among other things, a hardcore science fiction fan. In science-fiction-land, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. They even have an acronym for it: TANSTAAFL. (There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch) -- coined by the late Robert A. Heinlein.

Overall this story is woefully short with a lot of potential. The idea is fresh and the perspective is a unique opportunity for readers to experience history as it actually unfolded, in the midst of the wars and drama and little every day details that are such a mystery to us now. I enjoyed the interaction between the characters, in all the multiple menage variations, and was nowhere near ready for it to end!

That said, Taylor accepted that Brody and Veris are vampires very easily, with little internal struggle. I'd liked to have seen more shock from her about that especially after their unexpected shared visions. The chemistry between these three is hot. I really wanted [...]
