Book Tour & Giveaway (US/Int): Roxanne Rhoads on sidekicks in the spotlight

Please help me welcome the lovely and fabulous Roxanne Rhoads to GT!

We’ve all read the books where minor characters and sidekicks quickly become favorites- or stand out as someone you really want to know more about.

This happens to me all the time when I read. I can think of plenty of sidekicks hat I adore (a few that come to mind immediately are Jinx from Kim Harrsion’s The Hallows, Phin from Allison Pang’s Abby Sinclair books, and Sparky from Laura Bickle’s Anya Kalinczyk Series) but I never thought while writing a book that a minor character would come to life in front of me and practically demand her own book.

This happened with Satinka Tala in Hex and the Single Witch. I knew she would play a major role in Anwyn’s life, in the series, but she started developing so fully, with such a backstory of her own that I plan to write a book just for her.
I know some authors create books and short stories featuring sidekicks and minor characters because readers ask for them, I wonder though how many characters throw themselves at an author and how many authors respond by giving them a book?

I’d love to know I’m not the only insane author whose characters come to life for them…

Here’s a little piece of Satinka Tala’s backstory that came to me one day while working on book notes and ideas- it’s from her spirit quest when the Shaman declared her an adult and no longer a child.

“Your totem animals, your spirit guides are the owl, the turtle and the wolf. You are wise and watchful like the owl, creative and protected like the turtle and the great turtle spirit, and you are strong, fierce and loyal like the wolf. Thanks to your spirit guides you can see and know, create and be protected, fight and protect others. As the owl you can watch over everything, fly high above the trees and know what is going on in your world. As the turtle you can create, bring life, and guard over yourself and others, withdraw into your shell to heal and be healed.”

“Most of all you are the wolf; the wolf is always within you. You will always be with the wolf. As the wolf you are loyal and protective. You will always take care of what is yours and fight when needed. You can call upon these spirit guides when you need them, but unlike others you are a shifter. You can become them. You can be your totem animals. Use them and be them wisely, my daughter.”

“On this day of your quest, your cross over to adulthood, I give you a new name to symbolize who you are and who you will become; Tala, the wolf. From this day forward you will be known as Satinka Tala, Magic Dancing Wolf.”

Anwyn Rose is descended from a long line of powerful witches yet she can barely cast spells young witchlings have mastered. She has one functioning witch gift, the power of knowing, which she puts to good use as a Detective on Flint’s Preternatural Investigation Team. It’s a new era in Vehicle City, supernaturals are running the town. The P.I.T has their hands full with paranormal crimes. Top priority is a serial killer, who appears to be a vampire, draining young women in the city. Anwyn is on the case with her sexy partner Detective Mike Malone. Complicating things is her relationship Galen, a vampire who looks more guilty than innocent, although Anwyn trusts her instincts even if her power is on the fritz.

Mysterious spells, compromising situations, and a possible demon on the loose make it hard to focus on the case, but Anwyn has to make things right before the human police execute the wrong vampire. Hex and the Single Witch contains magick, a little bit of mystery, a lot of supernatural mayhem, and a sexy love triangle that will leave you wanting more.
