Book Review: Wolf Protector (Federal Paranormal Unit #1) by Milly Taiden
***This review is spoiler free. Read on with confidence!***
The Federal Paranormal Unit is an extraordinary team of people who are unlike other government agents. They each have supernatural abilities that make them the best at what they do; catch bad guys. Erica Villa is one of those gifted people. She has the perfect gift for finding criminals, only it comes at a horrific price. Erica’s team leader, Brock, sends her on a new assignment to stop a serial killer, but she won’t be working the case alone.
Along for the ride are agents Ramirez and Buchanan. Erica doesn’t know what supernatural ability Trent Buchanan has, but she knows he’s the sexiest man she’s ever seen. Too bad Trent is a total player. Trent, however, is a wolf shifter and he knows for sure Erica is his mate. Working this case with her might just be the perfect opportunity to show her just how much she means to him. As Trent starts to discover the truth about Erica’s gift, he realizes he may have to protect her not only from the sadistic killer on the loose, but from herself as well.
I really enjoyed reading Wolf Protector. It was was a quick read with some pretty steamy scenes, a lot of humor, and some mystery thrown in. I loved how witty the characters were because I really appreciate a book that has plenty of funny lines to lighten things up a bit. Erica was someone I had a lot of sympathy for; her ability helps her catch dangerous people but because of it she bounced around in the foster care system as a child, and as an adult trust is pretty much a foreign concept to her.
Trent was really a wonderful match for Erica- he was laid-back, charming, and confident. It was great seeing them come together and grow closer. And I need to mention that I LOVE his protective side! Nothing was more important to him than protecting Erica, and he was willing to do anything, even protect her from herself, in order to keep her safe.
While the story was slightly predictable, it was still fun and a Federal Paranormal Unit is an interesting concept. I’m looking forward to reading more about Ramirez, Brock, and Jane, the team’s systems expert.
Memorable Quotes:
Mmmm
His intent was clear. In a movement so fast she didn’t get a chance to blink, his lips were on hers. An instant fire burst in her veins and rushed through her body, pooling at her groin. Her hands crawled up his naked torso, tracing muscles, memorizing every delicious inch of hot flesh. She whimpered in the back of her throat and opened her lips to his invasion. Possession, domination, and desperation were all the things his expert tongue brought to the surface.
Poor Ramirez. He just can’t win.
“What’s wrong, Villa? Man, you look like shit!” Ramirez said from the driver’s seat.
Not bothering to repy, she lifted her hand and extended her middle finger. A loud smack drew her attention.
“What the hell was that for?” Ramirez complained, rubbing a hand over the back of his head, a deep frown creasing his forehead.
“She does not look like shit.” Trent growled, turned toward her, and winked. “She looks like Sleeping Beauty.”
“Yeam, um, I don’t remember Sleeping Beauty looking like she got run over by the prince in the story.”
Slap.
“What the hell? You know I’m the one driving. Cut it out. I’m sorry, Villa. You know I still think you’re hot.”
Slap.
“Now what?” Ramirez protested. “I said she looks hot!”
“I know. That’s why I hit you.” Trent sounded annoyed.
Gotta love how direct and honest he is.
“I never said I didn’t want you. I said you were tired and needed to rest.” He cupped the side of her face with his other hand and looked deep into her eyes. “But be very clear, I want you. And I will have you. What we have hasn’t even begun, and it’s already consuming me.”
