Book Review: Being Me (Inside Out #2) by Lisa Renee Jones
*** This review is NOT spoiler free! Especially if you have not read the first book in the series!***
Being Me continues directly where If I Were You left off. Not only is Sara still on the hunt for Rebecca and her friend Ella’s whereabouts, but we’re also more fully immersed into Sara and Chris’ relationship. Chris is still a closed book. Once his certain tastes were revealed in the first book, you were lead to believe that this is Chris’ deep, dark secret. Come to find out, he’s hiding a lot more than just a little proclivity for pain. With this discovery, Sara’s curiosity and need to connect with Chris on that level are imperative and their relationship continues to be as hot as ever.
Also in this sequel, we learn a lot more about Sara’s boss, Mark, who originally comes across as the villain. Mark is portrayed as cold, very domineering, but with a sexual magnetism that packs a punch. Compared to Chris, Mark is somewhat an open book when it comes to Sara’s questions. He never denies or evades, which is quite refreshing.
As we continue to follow Sara on her quest for the truth, friends become enemies, enemies become friends, and nothing is ever what it seems. Just as the answers to one mystery are revealed, with it comes just as many questions and doubts. Will Chris ever fully open up to her? Where is their relationship going? Should she continue to work for Mark? Should she stay in the art world? And… Where the hell is Ella??
Memorable Quotes
Seriously… Doesn’t anyone pay attention when watching horror movies?!
“Woman – “
“Save your commands for another more enticing time, Chris. I’m not staying in the car. Haven’t you watched Friday the 13th? Michael slashed the girl in the car.”
“Michael is from Halloween. Jason is Friday the 13th.”
“Whoever he is, he slashes the girl in the car. I’m not staying in the car.”
HOLY SH*T!
His jaw flexes, and while the shadows hide the green of his eyes, I’m pretty sure they’d be burning with red-hot anger. “Is that what we’re back to, Sara? I’m fucking you? Is that where last night took us again? Why you are all over me in a parking lot? Because if you want me to fuck you, I’ll fuck you until you can’t remember your damn name and you never forget mine.”
If you liked…
If you liked Being Me, definitely check out Revealing Us (Inside Out #3) by Lisa Renee Jones, the conclusion of Chris and Sara’s story and is expected to be released September 10, 2013. For other suggestions of hot, 50 Shades-like erotica, there are a slew of them…but here are some of my favorites:
- The Up In the Air trilogy by R.K. Lilley, starting with In Flight (Up In the Air #1). This trilogy is finished, so there’s no agonizing wait for the next book. Also, R.K. Lilley just released Bad Things (Tristan & Danika #1), both of whom you meet as well as get an intriguing glimpse into their relationship in the Up In the Air trilogy.
- The Stark Trilogy by Julie Kenner, starting with Release Me (Stark Trilogy #1). This trilogy isn’t finished yet, but the third book’s expected release is July 30, 2013. Check out my review of Release Me here.
- The Because You Are Mine series by Beth Kery, starting with Because You Tempt Me (Because You Are Mine #1). This series is 8 books long, but was a serial so each book is around 50 pages and has been concluded. Kery also released another 8 book serial series, When I’m With You, starting with When We Touch (When I’m With You #1) that features secondary characters from the Because You Are Mine series that has also been concluded.
