Wildfire (Hidden Legacy #3) by Ilona Andrews #BookReview #UrbanFantasy
Wildfire is the explosive third installment in the Hidden Legacy urban fantasy series by author duo Ilona Andrews, and it is everything I expected and more.
“You’re mine,” he said, his voice rough. “I’m not letting you go.”
“I’m glad we cleared that up.”
“Do you understand me, Nevada? I’m not walking away. I thought I could, but I can’t and I don’t want to.”
I brushed his cheek with my fingertips. “What makes you think I would let you go?”
Nevada and Rogan’s path to their happily ever after has been a rocky one, but their romance doesn’t dominate the story arc. What I mean is that the drama in this series isn’t grounded in poor communication or angsty tempers. They challenge each other and fight for each other, and once they’ve committed, they’re all in. I love that in a romantic story, and it’s a big part of why I was so addicted to this series. That and the really cool magical world.
“What if I don’t qualify?”
“You stood toe to toe with Olivia Charles, a manipulator Prime, and you won.” His voice was steady. “You will qualify.”
“Thank you for coming with me.” He didn’t answer. He’d made it clear in the past that he expected me to walk away from him the moment our family became a House. He didn’t think our magic was compatible. If we had children, they might not even be Primes. He viewed this as the beginning of our end, but he came anyway. He was also a complete idiot if he thought I’d let him get away. He was mine. My Connor.
The expression of magic in this story world, and particularly in this book—the creativity, the variation, the ferocity and beauty—is the hallmark of this series. This is urban fantasy gilded in sparkle and intrigue, grounded in grit and violence and structure.
Ilona Andrews’ heart-stopping action sequences mesmerize, shock, and pull you in to page after page of magnetic prose. Just try to claw yourself away from the book mid-scene. I dare you. One of the things I respect most about their writing—and this series—is that the hero characters almost never take the obvious exit. Nevada finds alternate paths to resolution that, as a reader, I never even thought about, and no one person (no matter how powerful) is the lynchpin of the story’s climax. They all work as a team, and they face their demons as one big family.

Is this the last book in the series? Is thought it was—which was making me really sad—but now I’m not so sure. Can’t wait to see what comes next for the Baylor and Rogan families. If you only read one urban fantasy series this year, pick this one. You won’t regret it.

From Ilona Andrews, #1 New York Times bestselling author, the thrilling conclusion to her Hidden Legacy series, as Nevada and Rogan grapple with a power beyond even their imagination…
Nevada Baylor can’t decide which is more frustrating—harnessing her truthseeker abilities or dealing with Connor “Mad” Rogan and their evolving relationship. Yes, the billionaire Prime is helping her navigate the complex magical world in which she’s become a crucial player—and sometimes a pawn—but she also has to deal with his ex-fiancée, whose husband has disappeared, and whose damsel-in-distress act is wearing very, very thin.
Rogan faces his own challenges, too, as Nevada’s magical rank has made her a desirable match for other Primes. Controlling his immense powers is child’s play next to controlling his conflicting emotions. And now he and Nevada are confronted by a new threat within her own family. Can they face this together? Or is their world about to go up in smoke?
