Two-Man Advantage (Players of LA #3) by Leigh Carman #BookReview #HockeyRomance

Holy. HOTNESS! Victor is a ball of brawny, unruly, violent, pent-up frustration, and his gruff personality on the ice transforms into a raw, caring, unyielding dominant in the bedroom. Bowen, a man who controls every aspect of his own life and those of his clients at work, is the complete mirror of Viktor. And the perfect complement sexually.

But there’s something sad reflected in those wounded blue eyes, and I practically feel his tense, brawny body succumbing in defeat. Something damaged this man and hurt him deeply. I want to take away the hurt, put a smile on his handsome young face.

Bowen doesn’t like to submit. He doesn’t like not being in charge in any capacity. But his body loves it, and even feeds off the humiliation he feels when Viktor physically overpowers him. Especially since Vik requires verbal consent, and Bo gives it willingly.

Nobody blows me off. When I say jump, they ask how high. When I snap my fingers, they come running. When Victor fucking Novak won’t do what I tell him to, it makes me nearly insane with rage. Yet, if I’m honest with myself, the fact that Victor is the only one I can’t intimidate—that he defies me at every possible chance—really turns my crank, and that makes me even angrier.

For Viktor, being one of the top players in the NHL is a cage that he hates as much as he loves the sport he gets paid to play. Dodging a controlling father, suppressing his sexuality, and controlling his impotent rage at his complete lack of personal freedom amps up his dominant instincts with Bowen in bed, and their scenes are scorching hot.

I grimace at the man even though inwardly my body is yearning for his touch. I want him to shove me into the men’s room and tear my slacks down, taking me roughly from behind. Demeaning, demanding, dominating. What the hell is wrong with me?

This story is intense, and it carries some heavy themes: physical and psychological abuse, bullying, repressed sexuality, control. But under all that intensity blooms a loving relationship between two very unlikely partners. An unexpectedly deep and impactful read, Two-Man Advantage is a must read for lovers of gay sports romance with an edge.

One of my favorite hockey romances of all time is Him, followed by the second book Us, from Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy. I can’t even express how genuine Wes and Jamie are, nor how memorable their story is. You just have to read it, and I guarantee you’ll fall in love. I fangirled over this story so hard, it was chosen as the 2015 GraveTells Book of the Year and voted the GraveTells Readers Choice Favorite Gay Romance of 2015. These two guys and their heart-wrenching story will forever have a special place in my heart. The Romance Writers of America, peers of authors Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen, agreed and voted Him as the best mid-length contemporary romance of 2016. If you haven’t read Him, you must must must must!! Check out the GraveTells review here, or grab your copy on Amazon below:

If you’re looking for a straight (het) hockey romance with a gruff leading man, try Hard Hitter by Sarina Bowen, the second story in her Brooklyn Bruisers series. It’s more mainstream (no kink) but still gives rough-and-tumble readers their favorite kind of badass hero. On skates. Read more on GoodReads, or snag your copy on Amazon below:

If kinky, power-exchange hockey romance is your thing, you must check out Heidi Bealleau’s Straight Shooter in her Rear Entrance Video series. The heroes, college hockey senior Austin and porn star Liam, push boundaries and the story throws challenge after challenge at Austin and Liam, some of them new adult-ish and some of them kinky. I enjoyed this whole series for its open-minded take on sexuality and gender-fluid representation, but I had a soft spot for Austin. Hockey players—they get me every time! A Players of LA Novel
A hockey star skating on the edge of a catastrophe.
A PR specialist so adept, he’s called “the fixer.”
Working together will be the biggest challenge of both their careers.
The LA Vikings hockey team is fed up with the violent outbursts of its huge right wing, Viktor Novak, who is not an enforcer but persists in acting like one. Hounded by a homophobic and domineering father, Viktor takes out his frustrations by spilling blood—on and off the ice. Now he has one last chance to clean up his image, or his career is over.
That’s where Bowen Miller comes in.
Bo has taken on the hardest cases and succeeded—by micromanaging every aspect of a client’s life—at the expense of his own happiness. But in the stubborn, hot mess that is Viktor, Bo might have met his match—both in and out of the bedroom. One man is out of control, and one controls everything. But when sex and attraction come into play, those roles are open to negotiation.
