Knowing this is a Tiffany Reisz story made me pay attention to character details right from the start, and Mona is a competent professional with firm resolve. Sophisticated but not arrogant. I respected her level approach to people and business, including the mysterious Malcolm.

“What is it you want from me?”
“May I be blunt with you?” he asked.
“I’d prefer it.”
“I very much wish to fuck you.” She opened her mouth and said nothing.
“Too blunt?” he asked, a slight smile on his lips.
“No, no.” Mona waved her hand dismissively. “I appreciate the honesty. It’s refreshing. I’m not sure how fucking me can help the gallery, but I thank you kindly for the offer.”

The Red is beautiful, melancholy, a little haunting. And unexpectedly dark in places. As Mona’s sexual journey with Malcolm progresses, her mind (and that of the reader) opens like a rose. You may question unlikely details at the start of the story, but you (like Mona) eventually stop caring what’s real or fantasy. As long as Malcolm keeps coming back.

“It scares me to think what you’ll expect from me for that amount of money. I’d rather sell myself for one hundred dollars than one million.”
“You shouldn’t let a man shake your hand for less than a hundred dollars, Mona. And you shouldn’t be afraid.”
“You won’t do anything perverse to me?”
“I’ll do everything perverse to you. But you still shouldn’t be afraid.”

This story escorts the reader thorough an exhibition of sexual and sensual excess, a diverse palette of tastes and freedoms. It’s a kinky story for sure, with some bondage and pain sprinkled in, and it takes the term ‘scening’ to the next level.

“I broke you open tonight. Up here.” With his free hand he tapped his temple, indicating his mind. “And here.” He tapped his chest over his heart. “You feel close to me.”
“I do,” she said.
“It’s the intimacy of captor and captive. There’s nothing like it.”

The Red is magical, on so many levels. It is a work of creative genius, laced with shivers of sensuality and barbs of longing. It captivates and enchants and arouses. It will thrill your senses then break your heart, only to pull you right back into the allure. This book is amazing. Freaking amazing. Must-read-right-now good. A kinky modern-day fairy tale of lust and need and wonder. I wish I could read it for the first time all over again. Rarely does a romance manage to surprise and delight me, and The Red kept me up all night.

Note: The Red is not a standard romance—it’s more of an erotic fantasy story—but there is an HEA. I can’t say anything more without giving away crucial plot elements.

Mona Lisa St. James made a deathbed promise that she would do anything to save her mother's art gallery. Unfortunately, not only is The Red painted red, but it's in the red. She soon realizes she has no choice but to sell it.

Just as she realizes she has no choice but to sell it, a mysterious man comes in after closing time and makes her an offer: He will save The Red if she agrees to submit to him for the period of one year.

The man is handsome, English, and terribly tempting...but surely her mother didn't mean for Mona to sell herself to a stranger. Then again, she did promise to do anything to save The Red...

The Red is a standalone novel of erotic fantasy from Tiffany Reisz, international bestselling author of The Bourbon Thief and the Original Sinners series.

I thought I didn’t buy many books either until I did my taxes for last year. I spent an embarrassing amount of money on them! And the saddest part is that I haven’t even read them all! I hope you get a chance to read The Red (and it doesn’t languish on your shelf like half my purchased books!). I would love to hear what you think once you’ve finished, so come back and chat!! <3
