Hot for the Fireman (Boston Heat #1) by Gina L. Maxwell #BookReview

His gaze lowered to her lips briefly before capturing hers again. “You’re a siren.”
Olivia blinked a few times. “I’m…an ear-piercing warning signal?”
One side of his sexy mouth twitched like he was fighting a smile. “The mythological creature whose beauty and sweet songs lure men to crash upon the rocky shores as they try to reach her.”
Whoa. She was sooooo out of her league with this guy.
Erik and Livvie steam up the pages from their very first encounter, making even the ugly, florescent-lit mini mart fade into the background. Their banter and emotional connection is simply delightful, and the air around them buzzes with anticipation anytime they’re near one another.
“You can call me Wolf. That’s what my friends call me.”
“Wolf.” She said it softly, as though trying it out on her lips, and it stirred something primal deep in his gut. “That’s right, baby.” Erik bowed his head and spoke low into her ear. “I’ll make you come harder than you ever thought possible, and when I do, I want it to be my name that you scream and no one else’s.”
He nipped her earlobe, making her gasp. “Not even God’s.”
Erik Grady is a clever, determined, stubborn man with a natural dominance and an easy-to-love personality. His pursuit of Olivia is doggedly amiable, and the messages he sends her—email, voicemail, via her assistant—are downright adorable.
From: Sexy Livvie
Subject: My panties
Dear Lieutenant Grady,
The next time you leave a message with my assistant like the one this morning about my panties, I will “accidentally” dial the wrong extension and leave a voicemail on Chief Marshall’s phone expressing my joy in discovering that you love wearing sexy lingerie every bit as much as I do. Then I’ll sign off by confirming our weekend plans for the Victoria’s Secret shopping spree you suggested.
Respectfully, O
P.S. I’m reluctantly including my cell number so that I may reclaim my inbox for work purposes. Please use sparingly.
This guy is a catch—PTSD, war wounds, and all. And he’s a protector, right down to his very bones.
Wearing black athletic shorts and a white army muscle shirt, he looked like a warrior on casual day mixing it up with the corporate folk to see how the boring half lived.
The closer he got, the more Olivia’s body sparked to life, as though his proximity controlled the speed in which the blood flowed in her veins and the air filled her lungs. It reacted to him before he was even within reach, and knowing he had that kind of power over her was both unnerving and exhilarating—the latter being the cause of the former.
Erik stopped directly in front of her and pinned her in place with an imposing stare.
And just like that, twin pools of amber had set fire to the walls she’d so carefully erected between them, crumbling them like so much ash.
His eyes spoke a truth. That he could have her anytime and anyplace he wanted, that the freedom he’d afforded her thus far was a kindness he didn’t have to give.
Because with nothing more than a look—this look—and a gruff command, Olivia would happily give herself over to him.
Erik Grady suffers from lingering PTSD—the kind that gets worse after being stubbornly repressed for so many years—and the way Ms. Maxwell portrays it is powerful and chilling. Erik and his team saw some bad times, lost some men they loved like brothers, and experiencing his flashback as his worst memory tramples all over the beautiful good mood he’d been enjoying with Olivia was shocking and heartbreaking. And one of the most believable representations of PTSD I’ve seen in a book.
Hot For The Fireman sets up the next story in this series perfectly, and the next couple’s chemistry sets the pages on fire with a heat that rivals Wolf and Livvie’s passion.
“So what’s it like being a fireman?” Cody asked as they walked down the hall to his office.
“Similar to the military, really,” he said dismissively. “It’s all about high-pressure situations. You’re either in them, training for them, or waiting for them to happen.”
Cody grinned. “So you’re saying it’s not all kittens in trees and calendar shoots.”
I also have a ton of respect for authors who recognize the sheer amount of love, sweat, and (sometimes) tears that go into the reviews and other promotional work bloggers do. From the acknowledgements:

And you are appreciated beyond words.
“Essential” isn’t a word we hear all that often, so *hug* thank you right back, Ms. Maxwell! <3
