Laura Kaye pens such lifelike characters, it’s easy to forget that you’re only reading words on a page. Detective Kyler Vance has been around the Hard Ink story universe for a while, but he’s never shined quite so brightly as he does in the opening scene of Hard To Serve. And it gets even better from there.

She rolled her eyes and shook her head.

He grasped her by the jaw. “You know, when you roll your eyes at me, I want to put you over my knee.”

A slow grin crept up her face. She rolled her eyes again.

Challenge. Fucking. Accepted.

Hard To Serve carries a heavy BDSM theme, and there is an almost constant undercurrent of sexual energy pulsing through the pages, even when the characters are apart. Yum, so much yum! I’ve never particularly been into breath play, but Ms. Kaye spins it with a side of exhibitionism—topped with gruff and demanding domination—and damn is it sexy! She also takes on role playing non-consent, an edgy kink that escalates the fire even hotter.

Occasionally, he had a moment of discomfort—maybe even cognitive dissonance—about the fact that he was both a cop and a Dom who got off on bondage and submission and spanking and even role-playing scenarios that flirted with non-consent. Because he’d seen the trauma real abuse caused. But what he did was safe, sane, and consensual, and he drew the line where any of those three might be compromised.

Kyler is a Master who pushes boundaries—hers, his own, and even sometimes those of the people around him—and their scenes together just get hotter as the book goes on. Mia matches his intensity, taking everything he gives and craving more. We rarely see two such perfectly matched characters in romantic fiction.

Oooh, the FEELS! Hard To Serve is an explosion of ooey-gooey feely goodness and heartfelt angst. Laura Kaye is one of romance’s masters of heat, and this story vibrantly showcases her talent. And ohhh, the Masters of club Blasphemy! There are TWELVE of them. Oh hell, yeah. There is a sinfully delightful series just waiting to explode into stories here, and I. Cannot. WAIT. For more!
