Book Review: Sidelined (Southern Scrimmage #2) by Mercy Celeste
Sidelined by Mercy Celeste
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I am quickly becoming a Mercy Celeste fantastic, as in the truest sense of the word fan. I loved loved loved Six Ways From Sunday, the story before this one in the series (and you really do need to read it first) and I adored Sidelined. Why do I have this growing lady-crush on Ms. Celeste? Oh, let me count the ways!
First of all, I am obsessed with Levi Brody. He’s just about freaking perfect as a likable protagonist. He is sexy, sarcastic, confident in a not-always-manly-way, a jock who is also artsy and a foul-mouthed sexual bottom, secretly sensitive and hiding a shockingly flambouyant personality no one would have ever expected, and rarely does what you expect… so basically, he’s complicated, enigmatic, and hot. Tracy is equally as likable for completely different reasons. Where Levi is bursting with charisma, Tracy is stoic and in control. This is a man who knows what he wants and doesn’t make excuses for going after it. He’s not showy or exhibitionist (the complete opposite of Levi) and when he hooks up, he calls the shots.
Ms. Celeste doesn’t shy away from dark topics and she tackles real modern issues. The voices of the characters just work and, especially with Levi at the end of Sidelined, I love them more the more I read. This book has become one of my personal favorites and I’ve read it several times in the past month. I absolutely cannot wait for the third book in the Southern Scrimmage series to be released because I just can’t get enough of these guys! I now have a fangirl affinity for Saints gear and the fleur-de-lis symbol!
