Book Review: Officer Off Limits (a Line of Duty novel) by Tessa Bailey

Oh Daniel, such deep waters. This man has constructed a playboy facade to cover up a lifetime of deeply ingrained self doubt. Our off-limits officer has some serious skills, and I don’t just mean as a hostage negotiator. This book is hot hot hot! Did I mention hot? Smokin’. The connection between Story and Daniel is of the charts, some of the best sexual chemistry I’ve ever read.

There is an intensity between Daniel and Story that is raw and impulsive, and his dominating swagger is just about to die for. I love his take-charge tendencies and the vast collection of intimate skills that he uses against her, almost as sensual weapons. Daniel’s intensity of emotion for Story drives him to be aggressive and overwhelming and it is SO sexy! He’s definitely an alpha male so if that hero archetype is your thing, you will devour this book!

These characters are layered, both of them having buried demons and deep wounds from their pasts, and they never get boring.

The ending is a little predictable, I mean the hero is a hostage negotiator after all. Even so, it didn’t play out as I’d expected and it was nice seeing Story get to flex her brain muscles a little.

Memorable Quotes

Off to a great start…

“You know, I could have sworn you were going to pick the trail mix.”
“Oh, yeah? Why is that?”
“Because you’re both full of shit.”
As she turned to punch in her selection for the cereal bar, Daniel couldn’t stop his surprised laughter from echoing down the hallway. She’d caught him off guard. A rare occurrence. He liked it. A hell of a lot.

Hostage Negotiator vs Kindergarten Teacher, round 1… go!

Daniel studied her for a moment, then barked out a laugh. “Are you honestly trying to use reverse psychology on a hostage negotiator? You’re looking at an expert, sunshine.”
Shit. She totally had been. It worked well enough on her five-year-old students. “Nope, just being honest. I am nothing if not a pillar of honesty.”

A confident man is a sexy man…

Starting at the base of her neck and ending just below her ear, his tongue licked her flesh, a hum of approval deep in his throat.
Then he spoke directly against her ear. “Are you ready to scream, gorgeous?”

Make that confident, sexy, AND addicting!

Somehow she’d ended up in bed with the man mothers warn their daughters to stay away from. The kind of man fathers go after with a shotgun, their sobbing daughters trailing behind them in a wedding dress. She should have stayed away, because now that she knew what all the fuss was about, she would never be satisfied with anything less. He’d blindsided her, ruined her, and addicted her in one single evening.

What, you don’t speak ‘surfer’?

“Dude.”
Beside her, Daniel’s body shook with silent laughter. “Did you really just say that?”
She rolled over to face him, a catlike yawn stretching her face. “In California, the word dude has over a thousand different meanings. Dude, Duuuuuude, Dude! It all depends on your tone.”
“All right. So in this case, what was your meaning?”
“You couldn’t tell? I just paid you the highest dude compliment possible.”

If you enjoyed Officer Off Limits by Tessa Bailey, you might also like Wilde Nights In Paradise by Tonya Burrows.  Both have heroes with charming playboy facades and deeply buried secrets and insecurities, and heroines who won’t settle for less than everything she needs from her man.  Both stories also rate high on the romantic heat meter and feature men who know how to give a woman exactly what she wants and more than she realizes she was missing!
