Wildfire is the explosive third installment in the Hidden Legacy urban fantasy series by author duo Ilona Andrews, and it is everything I expected and more. What was a more-than-two-year wait for eager readers spanned mere months for Nevada, and she (albeit unwillingly) jumps right back into the fray with her favorite-unfavorite grumpy mage. There is literally never a dull moment in this story. Every scene with Connor Rogan treks deeper into his why, the experiences and decisions and consequences that made him this borderline-psychopathic juggernaut of a mage. Once you learn how overwhelmingly good the core of his character is, his darkness becomes even more appealing. Jan DeLima's books are almost poetic—lyrical—and such a pleasure to read. They inspire me to feel, on a fundamental level. Her stories create magic out of pixels, transport me to a place of gentle honesty and celebration of spirit. Celtic Wolves is a standout series still building up to it's (sadly inevitable) climax and I look forward to devouring each new book as it arrives in my grateful hands.

The magic in this story universe is an innovative mix of innate genetic ability and physical spell work based on arcane glyphs and circles- like something straight out of a high fantasy novel. Magic has boundaries - meaning it doesn't give even the Primes, the most powerful of mages - limitless potential. I haven't enjoyed an urban fantasy book this much since the first Night Huntress book, and that series is one of my all time favorites! This series has a lot of potential and should appeal to lovers of paranormal romance as much as fans of urban fantasy, thanks to the solid writing of team Ilona Andrews and their fierce, daring characterization of Rogan and Baylor.
