The first thing that struck me about this story was the strong, brotherly relationship between the male characters and their witty, sarcastic banter at each other's expense; I love the subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, humor Ms. Beck works into so many of the conversations. I also really liked Michael's personality. He's strong and determined but has an emotional softness toward Chloe that is spiced up with a snappy temper and edgy sexuality. She's such a free spirit, and his opposite in just about every way, that watching their spats and squabbles reminded me of real married couples.
