Giveaway (US/Int): Pamela Palmer gives us a peek into her edgy new Vamp City series
Welcome to Vamp City…
[floatquote]I love vampires. I love reading books about them, love watching t.v. shows and movies about them. Spike, Eric Northman, Bones, Vishous, Damon Salvatore, Edward Cullen. [/floatquote]While each is a vampire, each inhabits a slightly different vampire world. And each world possesses its own unique mythology. Some of these bad boys can walk in sunlight, some die during the day, some need human blood to survive, others drink only from vamps. Some are undead and damned, while others live, marry, and procreate. In these and a hundred other mythologies, vampires can fly, read minds, disappear at will, or even turn into bats. The list is endless. So, too, are the possibilities for a writer creating a new vampire mythos, which is where I found myself a year ago.
For the past five or six years, I’ve been writing about shape-shifters, Mage, and Daemons (my Feral Warriors series), and evil elves (my Esri series). But after completing my Esri series, my muse began to get restless. I’m still writing my Feral Warriors shape shifters (and I adore them), but my muse has never been happy writing in one world. I create best with variety. So I started playing with an idea for a vampire story that I’ve been thinking about for some time.
[floatquote]Creating a new vampire mythos is both exciting and daunting. Where do you start? [/floatquote]What do you keep of the tried and true, and what do you twist to create a new and exciting world for your own stories? I knew I wanted to tell a story about an alternate world, but one that exists in conjunction with our own world—a place the vampires can enter and leave at will, but humans cannot. And Vamp City was born.
When it came to the vampires themselves, I decided to go the traditional route and make them unable to walk in the sun. And the moment I decided that, I knew why Vamp City existed. It was created by a powerful sorcerer a century and a half ago as a vampire utopia, a city where the sun never shines, where vampires can hunt and feed on captured humans with impunity, safe from vampire slayers. A place where vampires can own homes, host games in arenas, and fight, live and play in darkness and safety. A place of vampire dreams and human nightmares.
The next thing I had to figure out was where to place Vamp City. After considering several different possibilities, I decided to stick with what I knew and what I could easily research. Since I live in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., and have set two series there already, D.C. was the natural choice. Besides, Washington, V.C. (Vamp City), was just too perfect to pass up. V.C. is no political bastion, unless you count warring vampire mafias. The city itself was created from a duplicate of 1870’s D.C. But unlike the original, it was left to decay in perpetual twilight, the vampires uninterested in such mundane tasks as paving streets or maintaining national monuments.
[floatquote]Vamp City may be a vampire utopia, but utopias fail, especially when the sorcerer who created it intended for it to be a vampire death trap. [/floatquote]Vampires who could, at one time, come and go from the city as they wished are now trapped inside. They need another sorcerer to repair the magic…and fast.

A Blood SeductionSeries: Vamp City book #1 by Pamela Palmer Vampires live only for lust and pleasure in the eternal twilight of Vamp City. But the city’s magic is dying. The only person who can restore it? A beautiful woman from the mortal world…one who knows nothing of the power she wields. Quinn Lennox is searching for a missing friend when she stumbles into a dark otherworld that only she can see–and finds herself at the mercy of Arturo Mazza, a dangerously handsome vampire whose wicked kiss will save her, enslave her, bewitch her, and betray her. What Arturo can’t do is forget about her–any more than Quinn can control her own feelings for him. Neither one can let desire get in the way of their mission–his to save his people, hers to save herself. But there is no escape from desire in a city built for seduction, where passion flows hot and blood-red. Welcome to Vamp City… |

About the authorUnlike a lot of authors, I didn’t grow up wanting to be a writer. I didn’t even want to be a pilot like my dad. I wanted to be an astronaut. I spent hours alone in my room either reading, watching Star Trek, or imagining other worlds filled with magic, strange creatures and dashing space pirates. The dream followed me to college where I studied engineering with plans to head for NASA when I graduated. But at nineteen I woke up to the reality of the modern space program and the stars finally fell from my eyes. The Space Shuttle was never going to take me where my imagination wanted to go. |

Instead, I graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Industrial Engineering and went to work for a major computer manufacturer. I still devoured books (almost exclusively romances) and even tried writing one, but after the first exciting chapter I had no idea what to do with my characters. I thought I couldn’t write. In hindsight, I simply had no idea how to plot.
I set aside the dream of writing for a few years while I had babies, though I continued to create stories in my head. Then one night as I did the dinner dishes, one of those daydreams became too big to keep in my head. I had to write it down. This time, however, thanks to the recent opening of a brand new library down the street, I discovered a wealth of books on plotting and character development and realized I could learn how to turn scenes into books and craft entire stories. The process was neither fast nor easy, encompassing four manuscripts, half a dozen partials, and eleven years of hard work before I sold my first book. Fortunately, I had a lot of encouragement along the way. With my very first book I finaled for Romance Writers of America’s most prestigious award for unpublished writers, the Golden Heart. Each of my subsequent books also became a Golden Heart finalist, the third winning the award outright. The fourth, through the Golden Heart, sold. Now I spend my days in those fascinating worlds filled with magic, excitement and dashing heroes, and my evenings with my real-life hero and two wonderful kids. Bones!!!
Like Andie i would choose Bones, i would like some tips to overcomes problem and all so an evening to speak with him would be great ( yes he is cute and all alpha but i respect the fact he is taken)
Yes!!! I see 2 Bones already =) that is my choice as well BONES from Night Huntress Series. I love him and his British accent. Thanks for the contest. Id love to try out her new series…vampires are my favorite…before shapeshifters.
I would choose Ann Rice’s Lestat. I like my vampires dark & dirty.
Bones!!
Hmm, this is a tough-y since I like so many. I’m going to go with Stefan from the Mercy Thompson series since we already share an affinity for Scooby Doo.
I do like more traditional vampires so this dark UF sounds like a great read to me. Thanks for sharing!
Nachari Silivasi from Tessa Dawn’s Blood Curse series. 🙂
Bones from Night Huntress. Chapter 32 🙂
Dmitri or Venom from ‘Guild Hunter’ series by Nalini Singh!!!!
i read so many books with vampires it would be hard for me to pick just 1. but id love to spend the night with j.r. wards brotherhood, or any of sherrilyn kenyons. im sure id make it through the night, and be a very happy woman.
Definitely Bones from the Night Huntress Series!I think I’d meet him even if I didn’t have a guarantee that I’d survive it 😉
Damon from Vampire diaries
vmkids3 at msn dot com
I’d want to have some time with Angel from Buffy haha
John Matthew from JR Ward brotherhood. I wrote an extra scene just for JM and me…LOL!
I will chose Viper from Guardian of Eternity Series by Alexandra Ivy.
I would have to go with Count Vladamir Dracula.
Larissa Ione’s Wraith. I know he’s a demon but he’s also a vamp 🙂 If I can’t have him I’d pick Keri Arthur’s Quinn.
I am all over Bones as the vamp of my choice! Even if I didn’t survive it I think I would still die happy:)
If I could spend time with a vampire and know I’d survive it I’d choose Bill from the True Blood novels because even though he betrayed Sookie he loves her and is a gentleman and would do anything to save her, protect her, love her and have her as his own a true gentleman bad boy with a past and he is a loyal friend.
That’s a hard question. I would have to say Zsadist from The Blackdagger Brotherhood, because he was lost and now he has a purpose. Also would love to spend the night with Dmitri from The Guild Hunter series, just because he’s a very bad boy.
Kaiden Thorne from His Dark Embrace by Amanda Ashley!
Lothaire from Immortals After Dark
thats tough.. im gonna have to go with i think venom from nalini singhs angel series… or angel from buffy.. or brad pitt, just because its brad pitt as a vampire.. lol
Mmmm Venom. I’m liking the way you think, chica! =D
Anyone from the Brotherhood
Any of the Black Dagger Brotherhood but preferably Zsadist!
Ecstasy Untamed is the only “physical” book I’m missing from the series.
I can’t wait for A Love Untamed to come out. I LOVE your books and looking forward to reading A Blood Seduction too 🙂
I would have to pick Eric Northman to spend the evening with♥
Thanks for doing this for us!
Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse series. Thanks for the chance to win!
Wrath from JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood…though I’d enjoy any of the brothers, but yeah Wrath 😀
Lots of great posts! If this were a competition, Bones would win, I think, with the various vamps of the Black Dagger Brotherhood sharing second. Thanks for stopping by!
Nicholas de Brabant, loved him from day one. His roots are from Europe as do mine. I would want to spend forever with him.
I would love to spend time with Bones!! 🙂
Thanks!
Leanne

Hi. First of all, thanks for the chance to win. If I could choose a vampire to date, I have a lot of favorites, Roman Draganesti of How To Marry A Millionaire Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks, one of the vampires from Young Brothers by Kathy Love or one of the brothers from Black Dagger Brotherhood! I wish I could do that, I would like to ask them lots of questions. :]

Ooo this is such a tough one! Of course I love Bones. Who doesn’t? I’m gonna step outside the box a bit though and pick someone who isn’t overwhelmingly popular…
Dmitri from Guild Hunter (Nalini Singh)

Connlan from Hunted (Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protectors series)
Yum all around!

Hi Pamela! Your newest release looks like a great read! I wish its release much success.
I would like to spend time with Zsadist, a warrior vampire from the BDB crew. He seems complicated but that means he’s interesting. Plus he seems very protective and loyal so Id feel safe.
