Blog Hop & Giveaway (US/Int): Hot In Handcuffs with “Kinky” author Joey W. Hill

by davincikittieOctober 9, 2012

Welcome to the Hot In Handcuffs blog hop!

Who better to feature for a sizzling event like this than Joey W. Hill, award-winning author of the powerfully moving and incredibly hot Vampire Queen series.  Ms. Hill has her own unique dedicated fan forum, with “outtakes” and special glimpses into the worlds of (and heads of!) her characters, and is the mastermind behind several spicy series spanning the straight, BDSM, poly, and LGBT spectrums.  If kinky and steamy is your style, Ms. Hill is your author Mistress.

Click here to read our very special Valentine’s Day interview with the Vampire Queen crew. If you’re a VQS fan, trust me, you do not want to miss this!

The Giveaway

Down to the important stuff – the prize!  Ms. Hill is a contributor in an upcoming holiday anthology that is all about kinky and alternative.  Check out what she has to say about it below, then leave a comment answering our question and fill out the Rafflecopter to enter to win the anthology!

There’s a title that will grab your attention, won’t it? This Christmas, I have the honor of participating in this anthology with some fantastic fellow authors. Though I don’t do anthologies that often, because my preferred story length is doorstop brick, I did want to be part of this one, for three reasons. First, and most importantly, 20% of the proceeds are going to a great charity, a domestic violence project. Second, though I’ve only had a chance to write a couple of them, I love writing male/male, and the anthology is 100% same sex romances. Finally, it’s also 100% BDSM, and everyone knows that’s my favorite genre to write (wink). Apropos to the Hot in Handcuffs week, the back cover of this book has a Christmas tree with a set of handcuffs hanging from the branches! I didn’t include it here only because it doesn’t show up too well onscreen in a smaller size.

Since my submission is a “short” story (well, short for me – grin), and still in the edit process, I can’t really give you a steamy excerpt, but I can tell you a little bit about it. Here’s the blurb:

“Submissive Angel” After Robert found Ange bleeding in an alley, he employed the man in his vintage toy store as an act of charity. However, this Christmas, the eccentric young dancer will offer his thanks—and himself—to teach a brokenhearted Master how to open his heart to love again.

This story gave me the chance to learn more about antique and vintage toys, as well as ballet. The ballet angle bled in from another project I’m doing, where the heroine was a ballet dancer (Janet and Max’s story, next in the Knights of the Board Room series), but since the male side of that coin, the danseur, is fascinating to me (who can ever forget Mikhael Baryshnikov and Rudolph Nureyev?), this gave me a chance to explore that. Ange, my submissive hero, is of course the danseur. He is mysterious about his past, yet from the first day he’s devoted to Robert, practically begging to become his sub. But Robert has dealt with too much loss in the past couple years, and can’t seem to open up. Until the night, three days before Christmas, when he comes back to the store to find Ange dancing in the main show room. Since it’s been converted for the holidays to look like a Victorian parlor, it’s as if Robert walks into the transcendent magic of the Nutcracker ballet.

The toy research was a lot of fun. For example, one of the toys mentioned in the story is the 1953 “car of the future”. These toys had friction motors and threw off sparks when they raced across the floor. And, because toy manufacturers were optimistically certain that cars in the future would be big luxury gas guzzlers, they made a roaring sound as they moved. Wonder what they would have thought of Smart Cars and Prius? (lol)

Want to know a little bit about the other stories (you’ll be delighted and impressed to see the authors participating – I know I was!):

Ava March, “’Twas the Night” – Percival Owen yearns for the nights when he can kneel before his lover, even though no self-respecting gentleman willingly submits to another. Michael wants his first Christmas with Percy to be perfect, but is frustrated by Percy’s inability to ask for what he wants. The gift Michael offers Percy—and that Percy offers in return—is the best Percy could ever hope to receive: his will to submit.

Jane Davitt, “Tree Topper” – Jon’s new to the scene, and his sub Stan has recently stopped taking him seriously. Their tree has floggers, clamps, and cuffs underneath it, but will they ever be used? Frustrated and confused, Jon knows it will take more than a star to guide him on his way to becoming the Dom Stan needs—but their path to happiness might be shorter than he thinks.

L.A. Witt, “Candy Caning” – Nate is dreading the annual Christmas visit with his family, during which they will ignore or insult his partner and Dominant. Stephen tries hard to take Nate’s mind off the trip with the promise—and threat—of a three-foot-long candy cane. It’s a race to see if Nate’s resolve or the candy cane will shatter first.

Alexa Snow, “Ring Out the Old and In the New” – Recovering from a mugging on the London Underground, Evan has barely left the house in weeks. His partner and Dom, Russell, finally manages to drag him outside on Christmas Eve, but it’s the surprise that Russell has waiting for him back home that helps Evan get past his trauma and remember what’s important: being on his knees for the man he loves.

Elyan Smith, “Open Return” – Fifteen years ago, Zach left the small Midwestern town he grew up in, confused and scared and determined to figure out who he was. Now transformed, he’s drawn back by the memory and promise of the dominant couple he left behind. Laura and Scott are still together, and as the year draws to a close, they explore old feelings and new ones as they discover they’ve all been waiting for Zach to come home.

Kim Dare, “His Very Last Chance” – Drew screwed up. So when his master, Kingsley, summons him on New Year’s Eve, he knows he deserves the punishment in store for him. Everything changed for Kingsley when he overheard Drew running his mouth to his friends on Boxing Day. Now, there’s only one way he can possibly ring in the New Year: starting over fresh, either with an ending or a new beginning.

Katie Porter, “Fireworks” – Rachel’s job is taking her to Tokyo, which means leaving behind her lover and submissive, Emma. When she summons Emma for one last hurrah on New Year’s Eve, Emma answers, hoping desperately to be able to break through her ma’am’s emotional barriers and find the spark of love among the glittering fireworks.

The book releases this December 3 in print and ebook, but the ebook can be pre-ordered now. If you get it direct from the Riptide site, three things will happen – 1) most importantly, the 20% of the cost that goes to the charity won’t be affected by third party vendor costs, 2) you’ll be entered into a drawing for a year’s worth of free Riptide releases, and 3) you can download the book in any or all formats of your choosing. The print book can only be ordered on or after the December 3 release date through third party vendors (Amazon, B&N, etc), but never fear – if you do prefer the print version, 20% still goes to the charity; just a smaller amount after the subtraction of the thirdparty costs. But every bit helps, so don’t let that stop you!

Here’s the link to learn more about the book and the charity – http://riptidepublishing.com/titles/o-come-all-ye-kinky.

As many of you know, I VASTLY prefer to be around to answer any and all comments or questions when a post goes live, but unfortunately, I’m traveling to Romanticon in Canton Ohio today, and will be there for the week. While I will have email access, my activities at the con won’t allow me a lot of time to be present on the blog. I do deeply apologize for that. However, please know I will check the comments when I can this week and answer any questions. It may just take me a little longer than usual. However, to make up for that, Grave Tells will be giving away a copy of O Come All Ye Kinky! Winner’s preference, ebook or print, to be delivered to your inbox or door as soon as possible at or after December 3. Just leave a comment answering DVK’s question, then enter through the Rafflecopter widget where indicated. Thanks again to GraveTells for letting me visit with you all!

To find out more about me:

So what about you?  Are you jonzing for this anthology now too?  I can’t wait to read it.  One of the things I think is so great about the writing of Ms. Hill and these other featured authors is their ability to look beyond what society says is “right” and get to the heart of what a person really needs.

To enter to win a copy, just as soon as Ms. Hill has one in hand, leave a comment on this post telling us something about yourself that is outside the norm (you like being restrained, you swing both ways, you’re into menage but afraid to try it, etc), if you feel comfortable, and what about this anthology has you most excited, then fill out the Rafflecopter below. This giveaway is open to everyone, no shipping restrictions.

Note: If you are viewing this from our main Feed page, click the title of the post, then scroll to the bottom to view the Comments area.  You must leave your comment there, not in the Rafflecopter widget, in order to qualify for the giveaway. Good luck!

Well I swing both ways. I like to be the submissive in a hetero relationship and the dominant in a Bi relationship. So that can run the gambit from being tied up with rough play to being the one doing the tying. 😉 And I am looking forward to the book altogether. It sounds like just the fun steamy read to keep me warm during a cold December night.

I am pretty vanilla in real life but in my fantasies I am more like funky monkey! I read such a wide range of erotica and I love BDSM! I love anthologies for many reasons, one is I get a bunch of stories in one book and another is I usually find a new author to read! I love finding new authors!

Can’t wait for Joey’s part in this book. Hope to find some new authors also to read. My life is sort of dull, but fantasy life is exciting through books.

  • October 10, 2012 at 11:11 am

I’m like Leelu in fifth element. I’ve never known love. Joey’s books shows me many kinds of love, lovers. I can relate to some of the people in the stories. Being a 61 year old spinster, I think BDSM is not for me. I’m getting all the rest of her books I haven’t read for Christmas. I would very much like This one too. 🙂

Woohoo! Great theme for a hop!
I like the “Naughty” books. The naughtier they are the better I like them. 🙂
As for real life, I’m sorta vanilla there. I get my kink out of the books I read. Then I go jump the hubby’s bone. LOL

  • October 10, 2012 at 9:32 pm

You guys are so brave and honest! <3 Thank you so much for sharing!! I know my question was a little personal, so I appreciate everyone being so open. Here’s my answer to the question…

I’m not in the lifestyle and have never tried anything past basic bondage in the bedroom, but I definitely love reading about some of the heavier stuff, especially the m/f/m menages, so I’m hoping to find a way to learn more about how I can give some of what I read about a go in reality… and convince the hubby its a good idea? Hah!

I like to be in control with most things, so when I have the right partner I can trust to take care of me, I like to give up control to him. I’m looking forward to “seeing” Ange dance!

  • October 12, 2012 at 8:04 pm

Hey all! Sorry I wasn’t able to be here the day of the blog, but I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s comments! Like DVK, I’m impressed by your bravery and how straightforward you are. I’m at Romanticon in Ohio right now, and when doing a BDSM workshop today, one of the things the participants discussed was how it’s become more acceptable for women to talk about and admit interests in kink. A good change! :>

Marie, I had so much fun learning about the toys. It really is amazing all the different ones out there. I was amazed by pressed iron toys that go for four figures these days! And of course I loved the balance toys, the porcelain-faced dolls, etc.

Selenna, there’s a wonderful dance scene with Ange, right at the beginning (wink).

Sandy Lion, you can also go to my website and choose any of my series/book links to read free excerpts, which are often the first full chapter of the books, to get a sense of my style, as well as the variety of stories I offer (smile). Thanks for your interest!

Renee, sounds like a happy husband! (lol)

Thank you all for the wonderful compliments and interest in the new books. And I know the other authors in the anthology appreciate it greatly as well! Good luck in the contest…

Very vanilla in life but I do love BDSM and m/m stories (which would shock about everyone who really knows me). I would love to be in a m/m/f menage with some BDSM.

I’m in a vanilla marriage. First marriage, I was married to a Dom but didn’t think that was normal. So I married a ‘regular’ guy. While he is slowly (say it slow to) opening up (letting me read some books to him (50 shades, nature of desire, etc)) I prefer the bdsm lifestyle. Menopause doesn’t help that. Joey is a fav of mine since I started reading over two years ago and can’t wait for the new work.

This was a fun one! You guys were SO brave and honest and sweet and just all around good sports. Thank you ALL for participating! <3

A huge thank you also goes to Joey Hill for being our guest and such a lovely lady to work with. *kisses to you Ms. Hill!*

Our lucky winner from the hop is Ashley A. Congrats, ma’am! May you have a nice kinky Christmas. =D

  • October 17, 2012 at 7:04 am

Thanks, DVK! I wish I could have been more “in person” for this one, but like you, I’ve enjoyed reading the responses. Just to add mine to the latest posts like Sheila B’s (hey girl!), my husband is not a Dom, but I’m a sub, so that has presented challenges in our journey together. Fortunately, we’re friends as well as lovers, and that has helped tremendously in working out the “kinks” (lol).

June, I know you’ll find some new authors for your reading list in the group, because it’s just a fantastic lineup – I’m delighted to be a part of it. And Molly, you’re in good company. I love reading male/male, and I hear from a lot of readers these days who have become completely addicted to it as well. How the romance world has changed! (grin)

Best to all of you, and congratulations, Ashley! I’ll be in touch with you today. :>
