Review: The Vampire, the Witch, and the Werewolf: A New Orleans Threesome by Louisa Bacio

by davincikittieDecember 12, 2011

TLDR recap:

Vampire Lawrence and werewolf Trevor are living happily together in their New Orleans loft when Lily bursts into their apartment, bursting lightbulbs and trying to understand her strange dreams of a threesome, a looming danger, and her burgeoning witch’s powers.  Law and Trev know Lily is the missing link in their relationship and they all set about trying to help her come into her powers before it’s too late… but Lily is more than meets the eye and the trio is in for a dangerous surprise.  Steamy and adventurous, GraveTells thinks The Vampire, the Witch, and the Werewolf: A New Orleans Threesome is worth a look!

Thoughts:

The book opens up with a tantalizing glimpse into the existing relationship between Trevor and Lawrence, a werewolf and a vampire who own and operate a bookstore in New Orleans.  The setting is appealing and helps liven up the plot by allowing the author to sprinkle in bits of history and lore with references to the party scene in the Quarter, the notable above-ground graveyards, and the ever-present rumors of voodoo.

Despite the sexy overtones of the opening scene, Ms. Bacio resists the temptation to dive right into the menage action and allows us some time to develop background and connections to our three protagonists.  And the menage scenes are definitely steamy!  The trio has good energy and healthy connections between them, the menage scenes aren’t cheesy or overly unrealistic (which happens semi-frequently with paranormal erotica), and they don’t rule the story line.  The romantic pacing is comfortable and the story flew by so fast I read over 3/4 of it in 2 hours.

The story jumps jarringly forward a few times at the end of a chapter, but always goes back to fill in the gap.  There isn’t a whole lot of character development for the antagonist, but considering this is an erotica book, that’s understandable and (to me, at least) acceptable.  He is fairly scary though, so his “on-stage” scenes are well done, and Ms. Bacio doesn’t overindulge in her character’s abilities; they aren’t superheroes who can leap tall buildings and blast the bad guys with a single thought, regardless of their supernatural status.

The conclusion is satisfying, if a little predictable, and the overall feel and speed of the story is rewarding. For those interested in a menage-a-troi read with a healthy helping of adventure, The Vampire, the Witch, and the Werewolf: A New Orleans Threesome is worth a look!

If you liked The Vampire, the Witch, and the Werewolf: A New Orleans Threesome…

If you enjoyed The Vampire, the Witch, and the Werewolf: A New Orleans Threesome for its steamy menage scenes between various types of supernatural characters, you might also enjoy The Moon, the Madness, and the Magic by Eliza March (book #2 in the Enchanted Mountain series).  If you generally like menage and BDSM but want a more intense storyline with extremely powerful characters and emotional impact, check out Joey Hill’s Vampire Queen series, starting with The Vampire Queen’s Servant.  Ms. Hill will have you begging for more and so wrapped up in the story that you never want to come back to reality.  Seriously, dangerous stuff!  *grin*

Very interesting review! I’ve noticed this title a few times (my 2 short stories share similar titles so it sort of hopped out at me a few times), but I haven’t taken a further look at it. I’m glad I read your review since now I’m going to add it to my TBR list. And, I love reading stories set in New Orleans! That’s one of my favorite places in the world and I would love to go back! Until then, I’ll be happy to read stories set there.

      Hi Tricia! Thanks for commenting!

I’ve only been to New Orleans once and only got to do a little sight-seeing. It seems like every story I read about the city has elements of voodoo in them, which I honestly didn’t pick up on. Next time I go back, I think Ill stray away from the club scene and check out more of the city’s culture. So much to see and do and never enough time!

Thanks so much for the review. Glad that you enjoyed your foray into the tale. I’m told, via reviews, that the transitions between scenes are smoother in the second book, Chains of Silver. 😉

Hi Louisa! I was just finalizing your guest post for tomorrow’s tour stop as you commented. =) Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment on the review!

I have Chains of Silver on my TBR list. Man, that list is a monster! I’m looking forward to reading it and am hoping for a few glimpses of our trio from A New Orleans Threesome. 😉
