Review: Covet by Felicity Heaton, Vampire Erotic Theater Series #1
When Javier returns to Vampirerotique, the theater he runs with 3 partners, he can’t wait to see Lilah, despite the temptation she presents. As a human bound to another vampire, she is strictly off-limits, on pain of death, to any other vampire. Because of his love for her, he wouldn’t touch her anyway, since that contact would bring her pain. It is utterly impossible for her to return his feelings. Or is it? Covet is a GraveTells Must Read!

Covet is one long, sensual glide toward a heart-pounding climax, and a satisfying afterglow. Ms. Heaton has put the Romance back in the Erotic Romance, while setting the bar extraordinarily high for the Erotic.
The reader vacillates between wanting Javier to give in to temptation, and fearing for him if he does. The penalty for touching a human bound to another vampire is death, and he must submit to it without a fight. As his overwhelming love and need for Lilah threaten his control, trust circumstances to conspire against him. An unexpected change to staff uniforms at the theater, and a disciplinary matter that forces him to be alone with Lilah, combine to push him over the edge.
The theater’s leading male vampire deserved the broken nose Lilah gave him, and she hopes Javier will see it her way. When he surprises her mid-fantasy, it seems only right to let the noises of the performers on the stage cover any sound the two of them might make.
From the first stolen gropes as they watch 3 men have sex with 1 woman, Lilah and Javier both know he is a dead man. Ms. Heaton takes that poignancy and turns it into something else entirely, with their shared joy in each other, and their hope for some kind of future.
The intimate scenes are incredibly rich, full of character development and plot advancement. Ms. Heaton’s style drags every nuance of heat from each touch and sigh, and turns the book into essentially one long, hot sex scene. Her use of sensory detail even turns the battle scene into more than a couple of males fighting over a female.
The only distraction from the story came in the form of a few repeated phrases and words within the same scene. Authors often habitually use a specific phrase or word to describe similar things, particularly sensory information. Some catch it themselves, and sometimes an editor catches it, but more often, it slips through to the published book for a reader to catch.
Nothing like death to put a damper on the ol’ libido, right?
Every vampire knew that to lay a hand on a bonded human out of desire or feed from their vein caused them immeasurable pain and suffering, and that their master would know of it and would come to act out the penalty. Death to the vampire who had broken the sacred law.
Umm, Javier? You’re still a straight guy, right?
It looked as though Callum had gone to a sex shop and bought out every French maid uniform they had. The puffed sleeves of the black dress were lined with black lace, and the neck scooped so low that Javier was surprised he couldn’t see her nipples. Perhaps he could if he was close enough. The lace that trimmed the material there was probably obscuring them from this distance. The horror of it didn’t stop there.
