Release Day: Mr. Rush chats with Violet Midnight’s vamp hunter heroine Emma

by davincikittieOctober 16, 2012

Hey there, Mr. RUSH here. I thought I’d get in on the release day fun by interviewing Emma Martin. She’s the kick-butt vampire Hunter from Lynn Rush’s latest release, Violet Midnight. It’s book one in the Violet Night Trilogy from Crescent Moon Press.

Mr. Rush: Hi, Emma. Thanks for agreeing to do this interview. It’s my first character interview, so be nice.

Emma Martin: Don’t worry, as long as you don’t trigger my wrist to glow, you’re safe. **wink** Kidding. It’s awesome to be hanging out with Lynn Rush’s hubby. She doesn’t stop talking about you…as in EVER!

MR: **clears his throat** So, I hear you kind of fell into this whole vampire hunting gig. Is that true?

EM:  Sure is. A couple of years ago my mom, dad and I were in a monster car crash. Some nimrod driver swerved over and crunched us good. I remember bright lights and then darkness. Woke up in a hospital to find out my folks died and got this wicked strange tattoo on my wrist **holds up hand** that happens to glow—and burn a little, too—when Vamps are near. Doesn’t snuff out until I vanquish them, either.

MR: Kind of puts a crimp in living the college life, doesn’t it?

EM: You could say that. Especially when I forget to wear my wide-band watch. I’ve had to mind-wipe a few people who saw the glow…

MR:  **laughs** Mind-wiping. That’d be an awesome power. Ever tempted to take that to a bar and clean house playing cards or playing pool?

EM: Hey, Mr. Rush, you’re naughty. That would be a misuse of my power now wouldn’t it **shakes finger at him**

MR: I said ever “TEMPTED”…

EM: All right. I’ll give that to you. And no. Not really. At first, when I got here to campus, I didn’t even want to be a Hunter. Especially after seeing my mentor, Gabriel, get slaughtered the way he did. But when I started coming around, I kind of fell into that whole Spiderman motto: With great power comes great responsibility. Gabriel had kept telling me I was created for a big purpose, and now Jake tends to say the same thing. The fact that Jake is even in my life is a miracle, so I’m thinking, yeah, big responsibility going on right now. 😉

MR: Good answer. You’re right about the big responsibility. But that’s a lot of pressure for someone so young. What’s that like?

EM: It’s got its fun points. I get to lift 270 pounds like it was nothing at all. I get all kinds of looks in the gym from these body builders when I lift a little more than I should. I normally just stay within acceptable ranges for a girl like me to lift, but sometimes…I like to mess with those muscle-heads. I love working out—kind of like you and Lynn—so that helps blow off the steam, especially since I don’t ever sleep. Lots of time to kill and no way am I studying 24/7. LOL! So, while I take my gifts seriously, I do try and have a little fun to blow off steam.

MR: What are all your powers, then?

EM: You really didn’t read the book, did you?

MR: Nope. Not a romance novel guy. But I helped pick out some of the songs for your playlist. I’m better at music than I am reading. 😉

EM: LOL!! Okay, so, my powers. Well, I’m pretty strong. My purple eyes allow me to see better than the average human which helps on a hunt for sure. I don’t eat, sleep, use the restroom, nothing like that. And I’m always a cool 74.7 degrees temperature-wise.

MR: And I hear you don’t feel any of the elements. Like hot or cold?

EM: Nods. Yeah. Until Jake anyway…

MR: For two years you’ve not felt any warmth? What purpose does that serve?

EM: I used to wonder myself. But if you think about it. If I’m on a stake-out or something, I don’t get affected by the cold or the heat. I’m always at the ready no matter the time of or what the weather’s doing. Don’t sweat or anything so I don’t smell, which makes it difficult for the Vamps to detect me. All those freakish gifts/abilities I have help when it comes to fighting those blood suckers.

MR: Okay, better wrap this up. I’m hitting our time limit, I think. Tell me one thing you love about being a Vamp Hunter.

EM: Saving people. Each person I save is for Gabriel. He taught me everything I know and then a Vamp sucked him dry. So every person I save helps ease the pain of not being able to save him.

Thanks, Emma. Happy Release day!

Let the Hunt begin….

Blending in with her college co-eds proves difficult for vampire Hunter, Emma Martin, considering the mystical tattoo on her wrist glows whenever Vamps are near. And after three months of silence, the glow is back with a vengeance.

Jake Cunningham witnesses Emma, a violet-eyed beauty, using unimaginable powers to fight off a fanged creature. Finally, after two years of searching, he may have found out what he’s become—a Hunter, like Emma.

Thankful for an ally in the fight against the Vamps, Emma finds hope and comfort in Jake’s arms. As she learns more about her new love’s family and its dark heritage, she may be forced not only to hunt them but to sacrifice her life to save Jake’s soul.

“Rush hooked me from page one! Fast-paced, gripping, this tale of vampire hunters is full of action and suspense. A great read! Buffy had better watch out…Emma Martin is one hunter to watch!”
