Interview & Giveaway (US/Int): Up close and personal with Hunted’s Connlan Kayrs

by davincikittieAugust 6, 2012

Ever since reading Hunted, the third novel in Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protector series, I have had a massive crush on the hero, vampire badass Connlan Kayrs… like Bones-from-Night-Huntress massive.  When Hunted won GT’s Book of the Month award in May, I knew I just had to try for a Signature interview with him.  Apparently, I was in a spunky, nosey mood the day we met up, because I asked some fairly personal questions and Conn was… well, why don’t you check it out and see for yourself?! *grin*

Please help me welcome Connlan Kayrs from Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protector series!

Download (DOC, 33KB)

A huge huge thank you goes out to Rebecca Zanetti for being such a great sport with this interview and for being so patient with my missed deadlines (man, moving is seriously bad for my productivity around here!)… and for letting me play with Conn.  *grin*  I had a blast and he behaved himself way better than I’d expected; in fact, he behaved himself a hell of a lot better than I did!  And gave me a birthday present – so sweet!!  <3 <3 <3  These Signature interviews are time-intensive on both the part of the GT interviewer and the author, so I truly appreciate all the effort Ms. Zanetti put into this.  I hope you guys enjoyed it!

There’s a giveaway below that you definitely won’t want to miss, but first here’s a little more info on the books referenced in this interview…

Ready Or Not

Moira Dunne is a witch–the quantum physics kind. Time and space are her playthings. Which might explain why her one-night stand from a hundred years ago has turned up to “claim” her–and request her family’s assistance with the war he’s brewing. But the more she learns about Connlan Kayrs, the more she comes to think this is normal behavior for him. . .

There’s Nowhere To Hide

When Conn and Moira tumbled on the moonlit grass, Conn hadn’t meant to mark her as his mate for all time. She was only twenty! But it wasn’t easy to wait for her. It was even harder to forget her. So when he finally returns for his wicked-hot witch, he’s ready to let the sparks fly. Even if he burns up in flames. . .

Sometimes You Mate For Life

Katie Smith is the best of her class, part of an elite hunting force trained to eliminate werewolves from the hills of Western Virginia. She’s good at it because she has the kind of focus and drive that won’t back down no matter how steep the odds. Call it southern sass. Whatever it is, there’s no denying her willingness to risk everything for the only man she’s ever cared about–a man on the verge of losing his very humanity. . .

Sometimes You Mate To Stay Alive

For the past ten years Jordan Pride has dedicated his life to protecting his people from a deadly shifter virus. But in a rare moment of distraction, Jordan’s guard drops just long enough for his fate to take an irreversible twist. Unless the woman he loves surrenders everything to him, again and again, under a full moon rising. . .

Your books look great, Rebecca. Question: Why did you have so many careers in your life?

    • August 6, 2012 at 4:30 pm

Hi there! Great question. I’m not sure–I think I always need a challenge and get bored easily. Art was fun, and so was politics, but neither seemed like something I wanted to do forever.

I enjoyed the law but not the fighting. I never lost in trial and still get job offers from law firms and private companies, so I could always go back to law. But writing is more fun. 🙂

Congratulations Rebecca. We would welcome the opportunity to read and review your books at The Reading Cafe. All the best.

    Rebecca I love your books.
My question is: Rebecca do you think that with all the jobs you’ve had that they have in some way added to the story land in your head? Which by the way I’d like to visit. Lol.

    • August 6, 2012 at 4:35 pm

Hi Lori! My head is an odd place to live… 🙂 I do think the jobs and all the people I’ve encountered do add to the stories. Also, being a lawyer has helped to hone my writing down – in both worlds, you’re trying to convince somebody of something. 🙂

  • August 6, 2012 at 6:39 am

Hi Rebecca! I am CONSUMED with anticipation for the next in the series 😉 But so far,.which one of the Dark Protector couples was easier for you to write about?
    minadecaro@hotmail.com

    • August 6, 2012 at 4:37 pm

Ohh – that’s a hard question! 🙂 Honestly, I think that Max and Sarah were probably the easiest because they were both blank slates at the beginning of the novella. I wasn’t held to any comments, thoughts, or situations that I’d created in an earlier book.

  • August 6, 2012 at 6:40 am

LOVE LOVE LOVE these books. Just finished Consumed this past week (Im a little behind on my reading since I’ve been in my editing cave. LOL)

Consumed is my favorite, I think. Love Jordan and Katie. Such a sweet, awesome, strong couple.

Rebecca: Are you one to listen to music while writing?

    • August 6, 2012 at 4:39 pm

Thanks, Lynn! There are four more stories in this story arc – though I’m not sure if they are all full novels or if there will be one or two novellas. And I know exactly how the series will end. 🙂

    • August 6, 2012 at 5:10 pm

Hi again, Lynn! My computer did some odd glichy thing and mixed up the questions/answers. Yes, I always listen to music when I write – each book has its own playlist, and I often listen to the same song over and over…and over. Drives my family crazy! 🙂

I am way behind it I guess, this is a new to me series but I am now fascinated by the characters from this interview. Thanks so much. Carin

    Happy Birthday, DVK!
I apparently live under a rock as I haven’t heard of this series or the author before. Now that I have, I am going to find the first books and devour them.
I loved the interview. Where are all these sexy vampires and shifters hiding? There definitely aren’t any in my neck of the woods.

    • August 6, 2012 at 4:43 pm

I’ve always thought the vampires lived in Oregon and the shifters in New Orleans. Not sure why. 🙂 Oh – the wolf shifters live in Washingon/Idaho. Trust me.

I love these books and devour them as soon as they are out but would love to have a signed copy. I want to know when Zane/Janie are really going to have their story told. I know they are all throughout the books but I love Zane and cant wait. Although Jace needs his book too. Thanks for the great signed giveaway.

    • August 6, 2012 at 4:45 pm

Janie and Zane will have their story in the next four stories after Provoked. Well, it’s the last four books of the series–ending in the Janie/Zane/Kalin story where everything is explained. 🙂

I’m so glad you liked Katie’s story! That was a fun one for me because she went through such a change in the ten years they were apart. Thanks for commenting today!

    Congratulations!
You’ve have quite a varied resume’. Which of your past jobs do you think influenced your writing the most? Thank you so much.
    vsloboda(at)gmail(dot)com

    • August 6, 2012 at 4:50 pm

Hi there! I think that being a lawyer influenced my writing the most. As a lawyer, you have to write quickly and get to the point – same as a writer. You also try to convince somebody of something (a jury or a reader). Finally, you need a thick skin for both. (I’m still working on that one). 🙂

Rebecca your books look amazing! I was just wondering if you had a favorite character to write?

    • August 6, 2012 at 4:52 pm

You know, whatever characters I’m writing about at the time are usually my favorite. When the series is finished, I am curious about who I’ll like the best when looking back. Right now, I really don’t know. 🙂

      Great question, by the way!

I am so glad i stumbled across your books. Excellent series and wonderful writing. You always keep me intrigued and want more of these sexy Kayrs brothers! Cannot wait for Jase’s book! Keep up the awesome writing!

    • August 6, 2012 at 4:54 pm

I’m glad they tripped you! 🙂 I’m excited to write Jase’s book – he went through a lot in Provoked, so it should be interesting! Thanks for reading the interview.

    • August 6, 2012 at 5:04 pm

Well…up until two days ago, my guilty pleasure was diet coke. I stopped drinking it–but now I really want one. 🙂

I should go find a new guilty pleasure!

        August 8, 2012 at 1:46 pm

Aww, come on, Rebecca…we know you have more exciting guilty pleasures that diet coke. May cheesecake, chocolate or one of your hunky vamps. *naughty grin*

Love you books and always waiting anxiously for the next issue.

I truly appreciate both the time and creativity that was put into the character interview. Personally, they help me decide along with the blurbs and excerpts whether I will like a book/series or not. This series sounds great.

Thanks for the giveaway opportunity as well.

    • August 6, 2012 at 5:11 pm

I think Sue nailed the intervew – she worked so hard on the setting and questions, and even some of Conn’s probable responses. I really appreciate all the work she did and am glad you do, too! 🙂

I am sure that a vampire’s teeth would be very scary when seen up close. I really need to read this series, I have the first two full books and the novella on my kindle to read. Thanks so much for the interview (love character interviews).

Is there a certain number of books you have planned? Do you already know how the series will end or do you only plan out 1 or 2 books at a time?

    • August 6, 2012 at 5:12 pm

I hope you like the books! There are four more stories in this story arc – though I’m not sure if they are all full novels or if there will be one or two novellas. And I know exactly how the series will end. 🙂

    August 6, 2012 at 5:38 pm

I fell in love with your series after Fated (I love Talen – he’s got a special place in my heart) and have hooked others (including my mom). 🙂 You do such a good job with your characters, which is part of the reason I LOVE the character interviews, and the connections from story to story. So my question is this, which story do you think will be, or has been, the most challenging to write and why? Keep up the good work, and I can’t wait for Provoked – Kane piqued my interest in Consumed and I can’t wait to learn what’s happened to my poor Jase.

    • August 7, 2012 at 2:33 pm

Hi there! Well, I think that Janie and Zane’s story is going to be the hardest to write. Everything in the entire series builds up to that story…and that’s a lot of pressure for one story. Also, the fans of the series are really excited for that book, and I don’t want the buildup to be too much, you know? 🙂

I’m glad you like Talen! Jase does go through a bit of a difficult time in Provoked, but he’ll get his happy ending in his story. I promise.

  • Julianne
    August 6, 2012 at 9:40 pm

I’ve read Hunted and loved it. Well, actually I couldn’t get enough of Conn. He can bite me anytime he wants. 🙂
Conn, would you consider taking more than one wife? Ok, now I’ll get serious.
    Conn, boxers or briefs?

    • August 7, 2012 at 2:35 pm

The man does know how to bite! I think when he goes into battle he wears those boxer/briefs to keep everything where it should be. I believe that he also might go commando once in a while, but you’d have to ask Moira. 🙂

  • August 6, 2012 at 10:05 pm

Can’t wait to meet Conn, but first I need to go back and read the first book:)… can they be read out of order?

    • August 7, 2012 at 2:38 pm

I think they could be read out of order, but I’m one of those people who likes things in order so I know all that came before when reading. So it’s up to you. I’d start with Fated if possible. Enjoy!

To all awesome authors: Which was your favourite chapter to write and why?

Thanks so much for the giveaway x

    • August 7, 2012 at 2:42 pm

Hi there! My favorite chapter is usually the first chapter when the characters meet, or meet up again. It’s a blank slate before the rest of the plot requirements set in. I have several first chapters written for several other books. 🙂

    August 7, 2012 at 6:22 am

I was wondering how much input you have with your covers? Just fabulous.

    • August 7, 2012 at 2:44 pm

Hi! I really don’t have any input in the covers. If I really didn’t like one, I might be able to get it changed, but probably not.

Having said that, I’ve been SO fortunate with my covers! I’ve loved every one of them. 🙂
