Giveaway (US/Int): Eleri Stone on threading Spellcraft with power and politics

Please help me welcome Threads of Desire author Eleri Stone!

Hi GraveTells! Thank you so much for letting me stop by today to talk a little bit about the first book in my new fantasy romance series, Spellcraft.

Threads of Desire is a secondary world fantasy—like Game of Thrones or LOTR—except instead of a world at war, the Sarian Empire is a relatively peaceful place where the practice of dark magic, any aimed at hurting another person, was outlawed centuries ago. The magically gifted of Saria are rounded up when they’re young and trained by the Guild in a craft—sculpture, painting, architecture, metalwork, glasswork. Their power comes not from their ability to inflict mass destruction, but from their ability to create unique and magnificent works of art. The trouble in Saria is more internal—political intrigue, a rigid class structure and a wide divide between the haves and have-nots, abuse by the powerful of the powerless.

That’s very much Ily and Kal’s story. Ily is a down-on-her-luck mage, living on the streets and trying to earn enough money to start a new life away from the corruption of the capital city. Kal is a wealthy aristo who Ily has been secretly drooling over in the marketplace. She thinks he’s way out of her league and nothing but trouble. He thinks she’s exactly the person he’s been looking for—a trained mage without guild ties. To lure Ily into his web, he lets her think she can have it all—his body, his money, her freedom—right up until the moment he pulls the rug out from under her feet.

So if you’re looking for another world to escape to, you might consider visiting Saria—extravagant fountains and white marble palaces, dirty street bazaars and lush walled gardens, a mage on the run and the man who captures her heart.

I’m giving away a copy of Threads of Desire today (or if you’d rather another from my backlist just let me know
If you’re a fantasy fan, what’s your favorite book or series? If you haven’t read any fantasy yet, what’s keeping you from giving it a try?

Guild-trained weaver Ily is furious her rival, Kal, a smug yet wickedly sexy rug merchant, outsells her at every turn. She knows her magically crafted rugs are far superior to anything he can produce, but can’t compete with his charming personality. When Kal fixes his lusty attentions on Ily, she is reluctantly aroused by his interest. She knows he desires her and, against her better judgment, she wants him too. A chance encounter leads her to make him a scandalous offer: her body in exchange for enough money to leave the city. She sees their time together as a temporary erotic adventure…until Kal reveals that what he truly wants from Ily is more personal – and more dangerous – than bed play. And she must choose between taking her chance at a new life or risking it all for a man she never meant to love.

I have so many favorites it’s really difficult to choose just one. That being said, I have a special place for anything involving dragons and G.A. Aiken’s shape-shifting dragons are hot-hot-hot. Melanie Rawn’s DRagon Prince and Dragon Star trilogies are excellent and of course one cannot leave out Anne McCaffrey – ’nuff said 🙂
