Giveaway: Gabrielle Bisset chats about vampire civil war & the perils of being a Son of Navarus
Please help me welcome Gabrielle Bisset to GraveTells today!
I always said I wouldn’t write a vampire romance until I had a different take on the idea. I’ve read all big vampire romances, loving most of them (hello Black Dagger Brotherhood men), and while they are wonderful page turners, I didn’t want to begin any story that smacked of anything similar. So for a long time, the vampire romance idea sat on the back burner.
Then one day one of my history students and I had a fascinating conversation about power struggles among the ancient Romans and the different take I’d been waiting for arrived. Instead of writing a story about vampires fighting outside enemies, I’d write about vampires fighting amongst one another in a power struggle. As a history teacher, the ideas of power and those who possess it are incredibly interesting to me. As an author, the idea works well and creates intriguing conflict.
My Sons of Navarus series begins with Blood Avenged. As the first book in the series, it eases readers into the idea that will become the focal point of the non-romantic plot of all the books: the rebellion of the Archons, the law and order vampires who want to subjugate all vampires to their harsh rule, and the eight Sons of Navarus who must defeat them to ensure the security of the vampire world. Subsequent books will provide readers with more about this fight between the two groups and the elders the Sons must protect, the Order of Macaria.
But this is a paranormal romance series, so readers can expect the stories to be romance, first and foremost. Blood Avenged is Vasilije and Sasa’s story, and it’s sensual and steamy, very much a reflection of the main characters. The second book in the series, Blood Betrayed, has a very different feel to it. The main character, a vampire named Saint, is darker and more tortured about the past than Vasilije ever could be. Saint is an outcast in the vampire world, and the story of his road back to acceptance through a woman named Solenne is more emotional than Blood Avenged.
Each book will be a reflection of the Son who’s the main character, but together they’ll all have the common thread of that power struggle and the fight each man must endure to save the vampire world from those that would seek to overtake it. Since there are eight Sons of Navarus, I’ll be spending time with those delicious vampires for a while to come. I can’t think of anything I’d rather do in my time as an author!
Here’s a little taste of the first two books in the series:
Blood BetrayedSons of Navarus #2 I am everything forbidden. I am vampire. Haunted by betrayal, Saint hides in the human world, giving his heart to no one and finding the only solace from his past in the arms of human women. Now as the Archons begin their takeover of the vampire world, this Son of Navarus has been marked for death. Summoned to defeat the Archons by the world that shunned him, Saint must face his past and Solenne, the woman he loved and lost a century ago, for only in accepting her will his body and soul finally find salvation. |

I love the idea of a civil war, its very different from the rest. I’m getting a little burnt out on the good vampires saving humans from the bad vampires.
its definitely new, a political view in vampiric world is rarely brought up in a novel.
I think her twist on the vampire romance sounds like a good take. I just enjoy reading about vampires in general so every take on them that an author can do, I’m all for. Thanks so much for the post and chance to win.
I love vampires too, Tanya! They’re just so much fun to read, and writing about them is pretty great too! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
I’m so happy to hear you like the idea of the civil war in the vampire world, Andrea! And I can’t tell you how much fun it’s been to write the bad guys too. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, Sienny! I love power struggles, so the vampire world seemed right for one. 🙂
I love reading authors different takes on vampires. It’s so interesting to see what world they build and how the vamps interact. Thanks for the giveway.
Thanks for commenting, Laurie! Building the world of the Sons has been tremendous fun for me. I’m currently writing the third book (the second book comes out in May) and it’s getting deeper and deeper into it. 🙂

Hi
I find the idea of political intrigues combined with romance very interesting. I don’t think I’ve read a vampire book written under this concept.
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Gabrielle, I so want to read this series. I love vampire books.
I think reading about your civil war concept will be exciting and new twist with vampires.
It sounds like a great idea! Great way to keep the whole vamp thing fresh and interesting.

This definitely sounds like a different and unique vampire series. I love paranormals, and since vamps are what got me started, they will probably always be my first loves.
I think it’s interesting because we’ll get to see different sides of vampires.
