Book Tour & Giveaway (US/Int): Reckoning’s Kat Matheson on the reality of crazy
Please help me welcome Kat Matheson, heroine of Reckoning!
Hi. I’m Kat Matheson and Grave Tells has asked me to tell you about my life. This feels kind of weird, because I don’t really do that very much. The things that happen to me, and the things I see…well, most people wouldn’t believe it. But the folks at Grave Tells have promised me that anything I reveal will be treated as gospel truth. I’m not sure if I believe them. But, here goes.
The first seventeen years of my life were fairly normal, if you discount the fact that I saw ghosts. Dead people. Images from other places, other times. And that was OK; I could deal with it. Until that day in the house…but I don’t want to talk about that. It’s too hard. All you really need to know is that’s when everything changed.
I should have been more prepared; suspected that something wasn’t right. But I’d spent so long living in denial that when things started getting weird, I just kept up kept up the same old habits: ignore it long enough and it will go away. But it didn’t. It got worse. And when my new neighbor showed up, and seemed to know a little too much about me, I just kept beating down those red warning flags that popped up. With his dark hair and blue eyes, and the way he has of never really answering a question, he’s hot and sexy and mysterious. I tried to stay away from him, but I couldn’t. It’s like I was connected to him in some way, but I just couldn’t figure it out. Of course, now I know why, but that’s another story.
At first, I thought I was going crazy. I mean, how would you feel if you started hearing voices you’d never heard before, whispering dark messages that made no sense. Or if a giant crow appeared out of nowhere, watching you with beady black eyes. And the fog—don’t even get me started on the fog. The fog doesn’t just hide things. It brings things. Things that haunt my dreams and strike fear into my heart.
I know what you’re probably thinking: Yeah, that is crazy. But it’s my reality.
My summer was supposed to be spent hanging out with my best friend, making out with my boyfriend, and worrying about college essays. But it didn’t turn out that way. Now I’m battling a deadly curse, searching for answers, and learning about a world I never knew existed. A dark world with ties to the past that goes far beyond the grave.
I can’t say much more than that. But I’ll be in touch. Thanks for reading. And believing. I can’t tell you how this ends, because it’s only just beginning.
I have to go now. They’re looking for me.

“They say the truth can set you free. I found out it can kill you.”
Seventeen-year-old Kat Matheson has never revealed the dark secret that sets her apart from everyone else: She can see and hear the dead. Until now, she has been able to ignore the strange apparitions and whispering voices. But it may not be that simple anymore. Haunted by eerie visions and increasingly frightening nightmares, Kat begins to fear she may be the target of a dark and ominous force from beyond the grave. Complicating matters is the arrival of her new neighbor, a young man she instinctively distrusts but is inexplicably drawn to. Gorgeous and mysterious, he seems to hold a disturbing knowledge of her long-held secrets. As she desperately tries to maintain control, events take an unexpected and violent turn. Discovering that nothing is what it seems and that her psychic abilities may involve far more than just communing with the dead, Kat may be forced to confront her worst fears and the powerful curse that controls her destiny. |
