Book Tour & Giveaway (US/Int): Danica Winters reveals the faces behind her characters

by davincikittieJuly 9, 2012

Please help me welcome Curse of the Wolf author Danica Winters!

I must admit, as I create characters within my books, I do a great deal of research.  My husband doesn’t believe that my looking at pictures of gorgeous men is ‘purely for research purposes’ yet I insist it is all in the name of good fiction.

In the case of Curse of the Wolf, I want to share the photos I used to create my story boards.

For Alexander Jaeger, I used Bear Grylls:

There is something so primal and sexy about a man who can survive in the woods for days on end and use ancient medicine.  He made me wonder—what is he running from?

For Gloriana Canis, I used Rachel Weiss:

Powerful, dangerous, and sexy.  This picture perfectly captures the woman I had created in my mind that was to become Gloriana.

For the witch, Tamsin Blithe:

I must admit I don’t know this woman’s name, but she was so beautiful.  She created an air of kindness, intrigue, and strength—the perfect witch.

On Pinterest I have a space where I ‘collect’ my favorite people and things that inspire me to create.  I love this program and I find that I am using it almost as much as any other form of social media.  I only wish I was more gifted with photography, but I am happy with the art of creating characters.  It is an incredible thing to look at a picture and imagine what they are going through, who they are, and what they dream.  Writing paranormal romance is its own form of magic—it is a gift of enchanted creation.

If you could create a character shaped after a famous (or not so famous) person, who would you pick?  Why?

For cursed, shape-shifting Veela, Gloriana, following her heart and giving her body to sexy, tortured werewolf Alexander means one thing-he will die and it will again be her fault.

Once only a man, Alexander finds himself scarred by the memories of his former life and the deceptions and lies that surround him. When a glimmer of light breaks the madness, he must let go of his misguided preconceptions and the hatred that consumes him.

On a mission for blood, they find unity in their desire for revenge, but are driven apart by their pasts. Traveling the darkest paths and fighting the very people they think they can trust, they draw closer to one another’s hearts and further into danger. Will the curse prove to be unstoppable… or is there hope in forbidden love?

I think Toby Stephens would make a good werewolf hero and Richard Armitage would be a great brooding vampire hero.

This story sounds pretty good and I enjoyed the excerpt. Now I’m intrigued to know what happens next and to learn what a Veela is.

Thanks for the post and giveaway opportunity.

Hi Danica! Writing is a magical talented and you are gifted! My inspiration for a character would be Eddie Norton…he is sexy and smart and brilliant. Just recently I went through some his latest movies (The Painted Veil, The Illusionist) and fell in love with him again. Now that I think about it, somebody else must have thought he would be good as a shapeshifter: he was Dr Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk few years go (2008), with Liv Tyler.

I could see Hugh Jackman as a shifter. He was so believable as Wolverine and that was without shifting!
