Book Tour & Giveaway (US/Int): A Blood Hunters vampire interview from award-winning author Marie Treanor

by davincikittieJune 9, 2013

Please help me welcome Lisa Kasza of Hungarian Duna TV as she interviews vampire Maggie from the Blood Hunters series!

MAGGIE: Guess what? I’ve been expecting you…

LISA (peering through the rain at a Victorian crypt in the Glasgow Necropolis): You’ve got to be kidding me.

MAGGIE: What do you want? Windows?

LISA (jumps as the door of the crypt creaks open): God. Are you possibly comfortable here? It smells – musty.

MAGGIE: I’ve been travelling. Haven’t been home in a while. Take a seat.

(Candles spring into life, illuminating a comfortable room hung with bright fabrics and containing a sofa and table, with a mattress in the corner. Lisa sits, warily, lays out her recorder and her notes.)

LISA (briskly): Thanks for agreeing to my interview. Why do you live in a crypt, Maggie?

MAGGIE (sitting elegantly on a cushion opposite Lisa): I think of it as a public service – I scare off graveyard vandals.

LISA (leaning forward and frowning): I know you, don’t I? Weren’t you at Saloman’s – I mean, Adam Simon’s house in Budapest the night his baby was born?

MAGGIE: I thought you were going to ask me about my life.

LISA (sits back again): All right. When were you born, Maggie?

MAGGIE: Fourteenth of July, 1922

LISA: You don’t look ninety years old.

MAGGIE: I don’t look dead either, but there you go.

LISA: So, you claim you died in – ?

MAGGIE: 1942. The train I was on got bombed.

LISA: Why were you on that train?

MAGGIE: Going to work

LISA: What kind of work?

MAGGIE: Testing explosives. For weapons. It was the Second World War.

LISA (dryly): Yes, I got that. What happened to you when the train was bombed? Did you… die?

MAGGIE: Not at once. Though I was in a bad way. A vampire picked his way through the carnage. He just looked like a shadow to me. I thought he was Death, hoped he wouldn’t see me. But he did. Only he didn’t carry me off to heaven or hell, just bit my neck until I was drained of blood completely, and then he turned me into what I am now.

LISA: Which is?

MAGGIE (smiles to reveal her fangs): A vampire.

LISA: Okay… How do you live, Maggie?

MAGGIE: I drink the blood of the living.

LISA: I mean, how do you make a living. Do you work?

MAGGIE: Why would I do that? I don’t need to buy food or shelter.

LISA: What about that rather lovely dress you’re wearing?

MAGGIE: I found it.

LISA (skeptically): Right. So, you don’t work. What do you do with your time?

MAGGIE: You mean apart from the blood drinking?

LISA: Yes. Apart from the blood drinking.

MAGGIE: I write poetry; I go to the cinema and cafes; and I go to night classes.

LISA: Night classes? In what?

MAGGIE: Whatever takes my fancy. You can learn a lot in sixty years or so. My last was in Hungarian.

LISA (narrowing her eyes): You were at Adam Simon’s.

MAGGIE smiles and says nothing.

LISA: All right. What about your personal life, Maggie? Do you have a husband, boyfriend, children?

MAGGIE: Vampires don’t have children. But I have a lover, yes.

LISA: Is he a vampire?

MAGGIE (smiling): No.

LISA: Does he mind that you are?

MAGGIE:  Not now.

LISA: Do you drink his blood?

MAGGIE: Oh yes. It’s…good.

LISA (swallowing audibly): Is he afraid of you?

MAGGIE: He isn’t afraid of anyone. Once, he hunted my kind for a living.

LISA: I’ve heard talk of vampire hunters. Are you telling me your lover is one of them?

MAGGIE: You should know. You interviewed him too not so long ago.

LISA (triumphantly): I knew it! We have met before! Okay, here’s the big question. There’s been a lot of talk over the last year – more so over the last few weeks – about supernatural creatures like vampires living among us. Others say these so-called vampires are just people living an alternative lifestyle, part of a growing subculture that’s to do with social and economic alienation. This makes more sense to a lot of people. What do you think? Truly. Seriously.

MAGGIE: I think everyone’s entitled to an opinion. And an existence.

LISA:  Most viewers would agree with that. So what is the truth, Maggie – are vampires real? Are you? Or are you simply part of a massive, world-wide hoax?

MAGGIE: What a huge philosophical question. I’d love to stay and discuss it with you, but I’m hungry.

LISA: We could go up to this little restaurant I found in the west end last night…

MAGGIE: I doubt that we eat off the same menu. (Winks. The crypt door flies open).

LISA: What the – ?!

MAGGIE: Maybe I’ll catch up with you later for a quick drink. (Smiles to show her fangs). If you’re still game.

A child is born…into the final showdown of Vampire and Hunter

The face of a killer, the heart of a lost child…

Konrad once led the legendary first team of Hungarian vampire hunters. Now, refusing to ally with the undead, he goes his own way, slaughtering vampires across the length and breadth of Europe.

The dying thoughts of one such vampire send Konrad to Britain in search of a dangerous instrument that  might be just what he needs in his obsessive war with undead overlord Saloman – a war he’s determined to win at any cost. The only being who can lead him to the instrument and its current, evil possessor, is sexy, mysterious, young Glaswegian vampire Maggie, who holds herself aloof from her own kind.

Maggie sees much more than Konrad’s anger and cruelty. She makes it her mission to reach beyond the horrors of his past and find the man he should have been. Difficult, when he threatens her heart as well as everything she believes in; and when her whole being clamors for his body and his blood.

While journalists circle, about to break the news of vampire existence on mainstream television, Elizabeth Silk labors to give birth to Saloman’s daughter: and Maggie plays a dangerous game that risks everyone for her belief in one troubled man.
