Book Tour & Giveaway (US): A cozy chat with Lucifer & a peek into the world of Clovarow

by davincikittieApril 11, 2013

Please help me welcome author Natalie MacGregor and Lucifer!

First off, I’d like to thank Grave Tells for inviting me to be a guest on their site! Instead of giving a summary of my book, The Atlantis Key, I thought a character interview might be more entertaining for readers. One of the main characters and heroes in The Atlantis Key is Lucifer – often called Lu – a demon who is trying to get his people back to their home world, Clovarow. Many obstacles await Lu and his people. Among them are a dark curse, and an evil tyrant known as Aynejel, who is determined to annihilate the only hope the demons have of liberating themselves and seeking justice. So let’s get acquainted with our hero.

Natalie MacGregor: Lu, are you a demon in the biblical sense – as in heaven, hell, and brimstone?

Lu: No, not at all. We do have wings, but aside from that we are nothing like the characters depicted in Christianity.

NM: Then what are you exactly? What are your motives?

Lu: What am I? I suppose ‘alien’ might be the most accurate way to describe myself and my people. We’re from another dimension – a land of magic, called Clovarow. In that world we are known as ‘demons,’ and our cousin species, with whom we once coexisted, are faeries.  As to our motives…well, it’s simple really. We wish to return home.

NM: How did you end up leaving your world?

Lu: It wasn’t by choice. Thousands of years ago, an evil faction of faeries banished us demons to an isolated dimension – a land without a sun or sky…just an endless labyrinth of underground-like caverns. With us out of the way, they quickly destroyed Atlantis – an ancient earth city that our world had been in contact with for some time. The remaining faeries in Clovarow who weren’t apart of the faction were forced into hiding. We demons have been waiting for our chance to return home, and destroy Aynejel (the leader of the faction) and his followers.

NM: How do you plan on returning home?

Lu: That is what’s so frustrating. We’ve been banished with magic, and all magic has rules. Until we find a loophole there is no way of breaking the curse that seals us out of our home world. We do, however, have the Atlantis Key, and that gives us an advantage.

NM: The Atlantis Key?

Lu: It is a key with intense magical properties. It has the ability to amplify one’s power or magic by 50,000-fold. If Aynejel were to get ahold of it, the human world would be in great peril.

NM: So you demons are guardians of our world?

Lu: Well…yes, I suppose we are. We view Atlantis’ destruction as being partly our fault for not seeing Aynejel’s faction developing in time to stop it. Therefore, we intend to prevent him and his followers from causing any other catastrophes in your world. And of course…we feel a certain connection to earth. During the several years of communication between Clovarow and Atlantis, many Clovarans (faeries and demons alike) married Atlantians and started families. Over the thousands of years that have passed, Aynejel has relentlessly hunted the descendants of those who survived the destruction of Atlantis. He finds the descendants of humans/Clovarans threatening, and so we continue to protect those who are left.

NM: There must be a lot after all these years.

Lu: At one point in time there was, but most of the lines have died out now. Only two individuals remain – a mother and her daughter.

NM: Wrapping things up, our final question for you Lu, is: after being gone from Clovarow for so long, what will your first plans be when you and your people return home?

Lu: Rebuilding our world to its former prosperity and tranquility will be our main objective. So much has probably changed or been destroyed during our absence…I imagine that reconstruction will be a prolonged undertaking. But, as they say in your world, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” There will be much work that needs done; however, I’m confident that someday Clovarow will regain what it has lost.

The Atlantis Key by Natalie MacGregor

Ruby Star has been marked as a savior, and she doesn’t even know it yet. From the moment the demon king first saw her through his looking-glass when she was six years old, it was established that she was the one for whom he and his people had been waiting nearly ten thousand years. She was the one who would liberate them from their imprisonment, and put an end to their nemeses, Aynejel – the leader of the faction of faeries who destroyed Atlantis and banished the demons from their home world.

Lu definitely seems like a character I would like to read about. I also like the idea of demons being the “protectors” of humans, as in most cases, they are anything but.

I’ve believed in Atlantis for what seems like my whole life. I even remember going to the movie theater back when I was a teen to watch a movie about the death of Atlantis. The end of the movie took place on the top of a hill with a large crystal mounted on a pedestal. They lost control of the death ray and it destroyed the island. Really “cool” movie.

So I messed up…. This should have been my next paragraph. LOL

I see Lu and this story as a great alternate universe version of the stories I grew up on.

A book about demon oppression within a demon tyrant. The Atlantis Key makes it a must read for me. What better hero than Lu. Thanks for the giveaway.
