Book Review: Mating Instinct (Moon Shifter #3) by Katie Reus

When Kat Subarova met Jayce Kazan, she couldn’t help but fall for him. The arrogant, confident shifter accepted her for who she really was: a Seer with an arms dealer for a father. Kat wanted a future with Jayce, but that dream came crashing down with a lie that left Kat devastated and confused. Kat ended the relationship and the two went their separate ways. Now, one year later, Kat is a different person. After a brutal attack by the APL, a member of the local Armstrong-Cordona Pack changed Kat into a shifter to save her life. Keeping her wolf in check is a daily battle, and it’s no easy task when Kat is plagued by nightmares of her captivity.

An Enforcer for the North American Council, Jayce Kazan is 500 years old. No one has ever gotten under his skin like Kat. He may be in town on Council business, but there’s no way he’s keeping his distance from Kat, especially after what happened to her. He can help Kat more than anyone else- he can teach her to control her wolf and teach her self-defense so she won’t be helpless again. His toughest challenge, however, will be convincing Kat to give him another chance.

Kat and Jayce are probably my favorite couple so far in the Moon Shifter series. I loved Connor and Ana’s story, as well as Nikan and Esperanze’s (I haven’t had the chance to read Liam and December’s book yet,) but I’ve been anticipating Kat and Jayce’s story ever since we heard about them in the first book, and I wasn’t disappointed. I couldn’t wait to learn more about the legendary Enforcer and the woman who could tie him up in knots. Jayce was always a bit of a mystery and getting some insight into his character was really interesting. I understand why he lied to Kat (even if I did kind of want to smack him for it) and I’m really glad he finally found someone who made him happy and could hold her own against him. I’m also curious to see if we’ll find out what happened to his brother.

I loved getting to see some familiar faces in Mating Instinct. What’s great about the Armstrong-Cordona Pack is that it’s a very tight-knit group, so characters from previous books get a lot of page time. I really enjoyed the ineractions between Noah and Erin. I know their book is next and I’m sure it’s going to be good. I’m particularly interested in Brianna and Angelo, though. They make a unique couple (Fae/Shifter) and I’m hoping we’ll get to see more of them in the fourth Moon Shifter book. I don’t know Angelo very well, but what I’ve seen so far is definitely intriguing. I could see him easily becoming one of my favorite characters of the series.

Memorable Quotes:

I’d be totally cool with that deal!

“If you have a need to find sexual relase, you won’t search it out with any other male but me.” The words rumbled up from his chest in a low growl that sounded more wolf than human.

Ooh, good answer.

“I know you’re getting some kind of perverse pleasure by dragging me out here, making me sweat.”
The piercing look in his gray eyes nearly made her stumble. “Making you sweat has always brought me pleasure.”

The good kind of teasing…

“Tell me exactly what you want.” His voice was just as quiet as his stroking slowed over her sensitive bundle of nerves.
“You.”
Jayce lightly nipped her shoulder with his teeth. “Give me details.”
“Don’t do this,” she murmured.
He slowed even more, his finger barely working her. “Then tell me what you want or I’ll do this all day.” He followed up with the satisfied laugh of a male who knew he held all the cards. In this instance he did. But payback would be fun.

I love when they get all possessive…

“I want to say I’m sorry. Hell, I know I should be, but I’m not. I don’t want anyone else to touch you or even think about touching you. I’m glad everyone can scent me on you and if I could go back and ask you first, I don’t know that I would.”

If you liked…

Definitely check out the first two books in the Moon Shifter series if you love the Armstrong-Cordona Pack and its fascinating, lovable members. The series starts with Alpha Instinct, Connor and Ana’s story, which is followed up by Primal Possession, Liam and December’s book.

You might also enjoy Pride Mates by Jennifer Ashley, the first book in the Shifters Unbound series. This series also obviously centers around shifters and is PNR. Just like in Katie Reus’s books, shifters have come out to the world in Jennifer Ashley’s universe and people are aware they exist.

About The Author
Rachel Elizabeth
I'm an avid reader who loves Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, and Young Adult books! Despite the fact that my TBR pile is huge, I simply can't stop myself from constantly looking for new reads. I've always loved to read, but my love for books has grown in the past few years (Yes, I admit, Twilight was one of the first PNR books I'd ever read.) Since then, I've discovered many amazing authors and books that I hope to share with more people. Books are an escape for me, and without them..well, life would suck. Alot. Any author who can make me forget about real life by pulling me into their story and getting me to genuinely care about their characters is a good author in my book. I also love authors who write about strong, gorgeous, sexy alpha males. I mean, c'mon, who doesn't love a good alpha male? When I'm not reading (gasp!), I'm usually going to classes, studying, or spending time with family and friends.

I have read this series and really enjoyed it so far! I love the Armstrong men, but there is something about Jayce that just drew me in. 😉
    Great review!

I know exactly how you feel! I have a soft spot for Jayce, too. I’m looking forward to seeing more of him as the series continues. Thanks for stopping by!
