Wicked Beautiful (Wicked Games #1) by J.T. Geissinger #BookReview

My first thoughts as I cracked the virtual spine on Wicked Beautiful were 1) I would so pay to watch this woman speak (hell, its so well written, I feel like I already have seen her speak!) and 2) this chick's voice reminds me a lot of Drew (whom I ADORED) from Tangled by Emma Chase. Victoria Price has culture, class, a gifted tongue, and some serious moxie. Wicked Beautiful may be rich in sass and wit, but it is not a light-hearted read. It may start out feeling like a grand adventure, but every step the characters make carry them closer to a fate they can't come back from. This isn't one you should pick up if you're looking for a quick, happy read. Now if you want a deeper experience, [...]

The Angels’ Share (The Bourbon Kings #2) by J.R. Ward #BookReview

The cast of The Bourbon Kings is back in a big way—the only way the Bradfords know how to do anything—and each character shines in his or her own story threads. Intrigue quickly becomes desperation, and even the most solid family members begin to make dangerous reactionary decisions. Ms. Ward pushes her characters through some wild twists and turns and sets the perfect pace throughout this second installment in the series. The Bradfords—once a family we envied and gaped at from afar, immersed in their opulent, privileged lifestyles—are made a little more human and a lot more relatable by the end of The Angels' Share. Nearly all the family members have been drawn into the story arc now [...]

His Royal Secret (His Royal Secret #1) by Lilah Pace #BookReview

I overall enjoyed this story—enough to stay up reading it till 2am on a work night—but I didn't adore it. I wanted the emotional arc to be stronger. James is believable, and his open, honest spirit balances Ben's more callous self-protective measures, but the relationship didn't sizzle or pop. I'm looking forward to following the other side of this huge moment the story forecasts, and seeing how the intensity in the men's relationship progresses.

Mercury Striking (Scorpius Syndrome #1) by Rebecca Zanetti #BookReview

*** This review is SPOILER-FREE! Read on with confidence! ***

“Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” — Sir Winston Churchill

When I read Scorpius Rising, the first story in the Scorpius Syndrome series (part of the On the Hunt anthology*), I immediately liked the setup: our modern day world falling to pieces after a pandemic bacterial infection kills 90% of the Earth’s population and turns half the survivors into either brutal, genius serial killers or raging zombie-like crazies. Mercury Striking picks up months after [...]
